Paste: Light red to orange.
Temper: Crushed sherds and sand.
Design: Surface is polished but unslipped. Design is excecuted in mineral-based paint, usually in quarters divided by thick brown-black lines. Panel designs include hatched designs, stair-steps, checkerboards, and rarely human and animal figures. Late examples of this type often have simple designs on the exterior. Most examples will have a thick "spirit line" around the top of the design, often with a "spirit break".
Comments: Vessel forms include bowls, jars, and mugs. This pottery type is a precursor to the famous pre-Hopi Jeddito Black-on-Yellow. The latest examples of this type are contemporaneous with Jeddito Black-on-Yellow.
