Re: Royal Arch via Pt. Huitzil
I would love to join you. I have done this hike twice in recent years. I am not young, just turned 65 and not nearly as spry as I once was. That said my feelings will not be hurt if you opt for younger sprier folks.

I have only been to Shiva Saddle. We used a GPS to go cross country to the drop off . It is sort of trail like here and there. Not too difficult but slow. You need to carry lots of water unless you are very sure it has rained recently. mary

Jackass not passable
There has been a fall in Jackass--I have not seen it but I hear it is no longer passable.

Missing trails
I was looking over the Hike Index this evening and noticed that several well known Grand canyon hikes are missing. Some of you hotshots that know how to type should add them.

I posted this awhile ago in reply to one of the articles, but it seems appropriate to this thread also. These are the guidelines that the Leave No Trace organization has put out for off-trail hiking: -Select routes that follow durable surfaces. For example, rock, sand, gravel and snow are all good ...

I'm stumped. The only other thing I can think of is perhaps in fear of not drinking enough water y'all might be drinking too much?

Re: Parsons Spring: Is backpacking/camping allowed here?
I'm a bit confused, I read the reviews of this trail and there were several people who said this was a great backpacking trip, however, when looking through Teva-Joe's pictures I saw this: http://hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=1350 Can someone with a little more knowledge about this trail fill me ...

I hate the fees. That said, Oak Creek Canyon has always been off limits to open camping--this is nothing new. I think it might be because there is so much private property in the canyon. So many people want to camp there that it would be disasterous if they all could. Any fires need to be in the gra...

I remember Wallace and Ladmo--and Chris Town and all of that. I have always avoided Phoenix however because it is so big and everything seems to be so far away from everything else. Flagstaff is too big for me now but it is home. It was about 7000 people when we were kids here. All of our play place...

A one day West Fork hike is doable but you should be starting very early in the morning--if you are taking a shuttle it will be too late in the day. There is no water for the first several miles. If you take a big drink just before you take off a quart should do you. You might also like a coffee fil...

OK--this is what I was able to copy from my Excel program. The true false column look like little green boxes (they don't say true and false)and I can check them . Notice the subtotals after each category and then the grand total is at the bottom. For things like food and water I just change the num...
