Re: Best Hike + Time!
Lost Dutchman/Bluff Springs loop in the Supes is my weekly fitness hike when I don't have anything else going on (~9 miles). Typical time around when hiking without stops is 2hr 45min. My record time is 2hr 25min, which involved a fair amount of trail running.

Re: teva joe
Another belated happy birthday Joe. Considering all your conibutions to the local hiking community we should have you designated as our state hiking ambassador. But until that happens, I'll buy you a beer next time I see you.

Indeed there is Wendy. The needs and goals of Backpackers is as varied as in any other sport. Best of luck to you with your direction in ABC. Drama should not be a part of any of this. Only hiking.writelots wrote:There's room in AZ for more than one backpacking club, that's fo sure!

Re: Tule to Peralta
Liz or anyone, any updates? One or two cars to pick up at Tule? We are a group of 3 so only need one now, but if you want us to we can take two back over to Peralta. We're meeting at Peralta Elementary at 6:00AM Friday and hitting the trail. BTW, I'll be using my SPOT in track mode if you want to se...

Re: Tule to Peralta
Well, the backpack group is now officially down to 3 people: Drewboy, AZMike and Daren (from Las Vegas). We definitely do not need that 2nd vehicle now. I got your vehicle info Wally, so I guess we are good to go. You might want to shoot me a PM with your cell phone number just in case.

Re: Tule to Peralta
The day fast approaches. Here's an update from the overnight backpacking group. We are now down to a total of 5 backpackers. Drewboy, AZMike, Al_HikesAZ and Jason and Daren, two members from the ABC. If 5 people with gear can fit in Wally's Liberty then maybe we don't need to borrow Liz's car if she...

Oh man, this is really awful. I don't think there's a member on HAZ that Joe hasn't helped out at some point. My thoughts and prayers go out to Joe and his family as we hope for a miraculous recovery.

Re: Tule to Peralta
I drove out to Tule trailhead on saturday. The road is in great shape, maybe a little washboarding in spots but I think just about any car would be able to make it. The Tule trail does indeed involve a fair amount of climbing. We pushed what we thought was a fairly good pace and it took us 2 hours t...

Re: Tule to Peralta
Hi nonot. I hope you'll be able to join us. I'm initially thinking to take off from Peralta trailhead around 7:00AM Friday. But maybe 6:00AM would be better on reflection, to reduce the odds of needing to finish up by headlamp. I'm guessing around 10-11 hours of hiking on day 1 to hit Reavis. Supes ...

Re: Tule to Peralta
That sounds like a wise plan to me Kurt. We'll figure out a plan on where to stash the keys. And thanks for the tips on water availability. I'd suggest keeping the keys with the vehicles and letting participants know where to find them. Stuff happens, and like I always say "the truck is no good...

Re: Tule to Peralta
OK Joe, maybe I'm confused :-s . I thought Reavis Gap trail was 117, not 118 (which is Fire Line trail). I looked at the track you posted and was assuming that you planned to take Tule Canyon (122) from the Tule trailhead, then turn south on 2-Bar Ridge Trail (119), and then continue SW on Reavis Ga...

Re: Tule to Peralta
Hey Joe if your group is coming in on the Reavis Gap trail (117), the camp spot I'll be using is very close to the place where you cross Reavis Creek. I usually don't camp in the meadow area by 118 any more - too many people, not enough campsite accessible trees for hammocks. At the point where the ...

Re: Tule to Peralta
OK, so the earlier proposed Randolph route (by Kurt ;) ) is still the one we'll take then. Not sure that I completely understand the couple extra miles to hit Reavis camp comment. Normally I camp very close to the Reavis Gap trail intersection, which should be right along your route. Concerning vehi...

Re: Tule to Peralta
Well OK then, but you're still the man :worthy: Are you considering coming along on this little adventure Kurt? I was jokin' Andy....... :D Yep - Randolph is a nice variation and I would suspect that there will be a pool or two left in there as well; right around 33 25 11 x 111 14 20. The portion of...

Re: Tule to Peralta
Oops! Sorry Kurt. Guess I better read threads more carefully next time. :guilty: I've never done Randolph before, am looking forward to checking it out. Great suggestion Joe on Randolph - that really simplifies the route. Joe? Aug. 26 - Brutal shuttle. I'd suggest heading down Randolph Canyon from t...

Re: Tule to Peralta
An update from the overnight backpack option side of things. I also have this trip posted at ABC as an overnighter. So far there are 7 people signed up. That list includes at least 3 people from this community: Drewboy, AZMike and Al_HikesAZ. From the shuttle logistics point of view it looks (so far...

Re: Tule to Peralta
Don't know Te-wa. A 2-stage car camp/day hike option does not sound very simple to me. I'm sticking with the backpack option. If you are offering a mid trip bailout point option for the long 1 day hikers, they might appreciate having that option.

Re: Tule to Peralta
No 40lb backpacks on this trip! No argument from me about the insanity of that. Most of us overnighters should have base pack weights before water/food/fuel of less than 10lbs. I'm still considering pushing the ~25 miles from Peralta to Reavis the first day to have reliable water and lots of trees t...

Re: Tule to Peralta
Oh what the heck. If Drewsbitch can commit, I'm pretty low on brain cells myself. :D But I'm definitely leaning towards that 2 day backpack option. I can take a group in from Peralta on Friday and do a key swap. Good point Kurt on keeping the keys around the vehicles. Maybe tough it out on day 1 and...
