Re: 400 GB SanDisk Ultra microSD card
I've owned many and only had one fail, but it was disastrous. It was an older 1Gb Sandisk and was working fine in the camera but when I tried to offload the pics to the computer it would only display an error message saying the card was corrupted. Sandisk's recovery utility didn't work either. So an...

Re: Joe Bartels hiking injury
Very sorry to hear about this Joe, but it sounds like you're making great progress and on the road to recovery. It's going to take time, so break out all those back issues of Backpacker magazine.

If you stop at the Kane Gulch Ranger Station you can pick up permits for the same day or the following day. Last time I was there a few ranger volunteers were set up at the top of the hill near the exit point to check permits...

Re: Found Camera Lens
If you found it in the vicinity of Lost Dutchman State Park, you might call the ranger office and see if anyone reported it lost. A few weeks ago I was out taking night photos and found a DSLR, tripod, and remote shutter just a short ways off Siphon Draw. After a call to LDSP the next morning I was ...

Re: buckskin gulch shuttle
@Outdoor Lover Yep, $75 per person and Steve was our driver. Pilot is actually a better description of him, he definitely knows those roads up there and skips across the tops of the washboards. :o It was a photo trip so we got permits to hike two days and spend one night in the canyon. Set up camp ...

Re: buckskin gulch shuttle
I've used Paria Outpost & Outfitters. They picked me up very early in the morning at Whitehouse campground and dropped me off at Wirepass TH. The cost was $75. I believe they also do Lees Ferry shuttles and those range a little over $200.

Re: First ever Camelopardalid meteor shower (storm?)
The " great meteor shower" definitely fell a tad short of the estimated 200+ per hour. I was in a very dark area near Harquahala and saw 3 during four hours afield. Not going to complain though, cause if I'd stayed home it would have been raining stars and then I'd be pretty unhappy. After...

Taken Monday night south of Chandler as it gobbled up South Mountain. Not the biggest or the baddest, but still fun to watch.

Re: Moonhouse Access Restricted
You've needed a permit for a while now. I had to get one last May when I visited. Also, there were volunteers from the Kane Gulch Ranger station sitting all day at the top of the canyon checking everyone going in and coming out. I saw only three other hikers all day. I've been visiting MH for severa...
