In response to Trishness' reply:
Very speedy. When I got back with the camera, he decided he was done with the show. I was actually running to keep up with him. I was very surpised at just how speedy he was.

What's that snake?
I come out my front door yesterday, completely unaware that I had hit this poor guy with the door. Coming back from the driveway, I almost did it again. When I noticed him, I was startled. Living in Sedona, we have found that shoes must stay on the porch. Anything white quickly becomes pink when Sed...

Red Rock Pass is not honored in the park, right? I try to hike daily (down from 425 lbs so far!) so I'm looking for new trails close to home. I am newer to Arizona. I'm used to hiking in cool shaded ponderosa and cedar forests where the sun rarely shines through except at noon. I am very photosensit...

Red Rock State Park
I just realized that none of the hiking trails in Red Rock State Park are listed on HAZ. Has anyone hiked these trails and can anyone offer any feedback.

In response to montezumawell's reply: I once lived in a place where male cats were always trying to out-do each other. They would spray all the time. They would spray the windows and screens so you could not open the house up because of the horrible smell. I pee'd a circle around my house. It actua...

Re: Where is this place? Does anyone know?
I don't think that is it. It is a single bridge and that's a double (right? I did a search and from the photo it appears that way) and it does not look like you can jump from the rocks. Isn't Navajo over the Grand Canyon? I could be wrong about the distance from Winslow. It may have been an hour. I ...

Where is this place? Does anyone know?
When I was a teenager, while still living in the Sierras in California, I took many trips to Arizona. I remember one time staying in Winslow, but we drove (maybe a half hour or so) to a river. There was very high rock walls along the banks and a bridge across the water. you could jump off the wall a...

In response to ghoster's reply: Boy, isn't that the truth! Every day I seem to come home with more and more of other people's trash. A couple of weeks ago, I was hiking a wash in Sedona (I love wash hiking) and I notice what looked like a big white lily on the ridge above me. It was sundown and I s...

In response to matt gilbert's reply: I looked into this because (and please, NO offense meant) it sounded like an urban ledgen...or rural ledgend. I found this: Rarely, like all other animals, rattlesnakes are deformed by either congenital birth defect or by traumatic injury. A handful of rattlesna...

In response to mikeinFHAZ's reply: I think one of my favorite aspects of hiking is running to other hikers. Some are pros, but most people who are standing at a fork and confused as what to do next. I love making instant friends on the trail. The magical landscape around us is common ground. A lot ...

In response to Trans tech's reply: I agree. I plan on buying a gun soon. Recently I was alone and a long way from a popular trail when something very LARGE with a low guttural growl followed me for about five minutes. I could hear it move in the bush and there was no missing it's voice. It did not ...

I'm one of those freakish day hikers who takes EVERYTHING withe me, including a frozen tv dinner and two packs of microwave popcorn. Mostly because I start my hikes very late so you never know where you will be when the sun goes down so you might have to stay the night. I started today walking from ...

I went searching for it today. I took the Courthouse Butte Loop, but I couldn't find it. As I rounded the butte back in the sun on the north side I decided to turn back, since I wasn't going to find it. Just a few minutes later, across the wash, I spotted what looked like a trail through the trees. ...

Re: Rabbit Ears Trail
I want to, but I have no idea where it is. I know where Big Park Loop connects to Courthouse Butte Loop in the big wash just before you head around the east side of the Butte, but I don't know where Rabbit Ears is. I can't seem to find any informaiton on this Trail, mostly because "Rabbit Ears ...

Rabbit Ears Trail
The Rabbit Ears Trail is listed in HAZ. There is only one entry for this trail but not too many details. It appears to be somewhere between Courthouse Buttee Loop and Jack's Canyon Trail. I cannot find any information for this trail anywhere. Is, maybe, Rabbit Ears and Big Park one in the same? Does...
