Re: Hiking with "tunes"...
I bring my tunes with me for backpacking. When it's dark out and all you have to stare at is the fire it's nice to listen to some of my favorite slow songs.

Re: Santa Teresas Holdout loop March 6-7, 2010
As of Presidents day weekend there was plenty of water. Both Holdout and Black Rock Canyons were flowing well in their entirety. Also several tributaries had flowing water. In fact... there was too much water which really slowed progress in sections. I think it's a safe bet that there will still be ...

Re: Forest Service To Eliminate Senior and Disabled Camping Disc
So we went from the campgrounds are charging too much to dispersed camping needs to be controlled??? The camping isn't a problem, it's the people. Maybe if the laws already in place were enforced we wouldn't have to create even more laws to protect us from ourselves. I haven't stayed at an official ...

Re: Night Hiking in the White Tanks Allowed?
I've night hiked the trails there without getting in trouble, but I was out the gate before they locked up. I'm fairly certain they'll lock you in and leave a nasty note on your car telling you to contact them letting them know you're okay or they are going to send out a search party (happened to a ...

In addition to all the good advice here... take lots of pictures! It's digital... go nuts! You can throw out what you don't use later... I've come back from some day hikes with over 150 pictures.

Re: New OHV Laws...One small step
I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen law enforcement in the national forestAs with most regulations, it's absolutely pointless unless there's somebody there to enforce it. And I assure you, there's not.

Bloody Basin and FR279 is doable without 4x4 as of the beginning of October. I didn't have any problems in my '90 4runner.

Turret Peak
Has anyone ever hiked to the summit of Turret Peak in the Tonto National Forest? I'm planning on tackling it this winter and current info on this peak is basically impossible to come by. Only things I can find are about the battle of turret peak and the snow storm conspiracy theory. Any info on how ...
