Re: Tent Camping near Payson/Rim this weekend.

That pretty much sucks if you can't have a fire. Are they not allowed in campsites, either?

Tent Camping near Payson/Rim this weekend.

Does anyone have any ideas for tent camping near Payson this weekend? I've camped at Ponderosa a couple times but would like to get up on the rim this time. Will monsoons be a problem? Any good sites? Any good day hikes in the area?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

Forest Road 143 Conditions??

What is Forest Road 143 like for traveling? Able to do it in a car? Need 4-wheel drive?

Where to go?

Where would you recommend a two day hike in the Superstitions? What is the weather like around there this time of the year? Is there any water?

3 or 4 days in Colorado

We're thinking of taking a 3 or 4 day backpacking trip into Colorado. Does anyone have any good information on trails or where to get information on trails? Preferably around the Denver area and something not too easy. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

Yeah we went up last Saturday AM. The weather was great and the canyon was pretty sweet. There was a "road closed" sign right where you turn in but we just drove around it. There were 2 groups of campers set up at the trailhead but we didn't see anyone once we got past there. Didn't get al...

Hellsgate 37

We're going to be hiking Hellsgate 37 this weekend and I was just wondering if anyone knows how good the water supply is there? Do we need to pack in water or will there be filterable water there? Like to avoid the extra weight if possible.

Anything else I should know about this trail?

Thanks.

Thanks for all your help, everyone. We're going to hit it up on Saturday and see how far we get. If we don't get the whole thing done, that's fine w/ me, either way we're out of the heat. I'm going to stop and pick up the book mentioned above tonight after work. Should be fun.

Canoeing in AZ

I'm looking to do some canoeing, either day trips from a base camp or something down a river. Does anyone know any good spots in AZ? Thanks.

AZHiker4444,

Thanks for the idea. I think we'll head up to Chevleon Canyon this weekend. I picked up a map of Apache-Sitgreaves yesterday but I'd like to get a better map of the actual trial. Any ideas on where to pick one up?

I've been looking over the trails and seems that the Bell Trail will have a lot of other hikers on it. I'm looking for something a bit more isolated. Would the Woodchute Trail 102 be any good? Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for the info. The Wet Beaver Creek looks a bit more difficult than what I'm looking for right now. I am looking for something a bit more moderate so we can test out some new gear. Thanks.

Looking for an overnight backpacking trip around Phoenix

I'm new to hiking and backpacking but I'm looking for an overnight backpacking trip within a couple hours of Phoenix. Ideally, I'd like to hike about 6-10 miles, camp, and then hike back out the next day. Is there anything like this? I know in Minnesota we have shuttle services that drop you off 20-...
