Monte - I love your vehicle idea! Myself, being a po' boy, just use my regular truck (a little ford ranger) which always rolls when I need it to and I've never had vandalism problems at the trailhead. For the past few months though I've been toying with the idea of getting an older jeep-like vehicle...

whisperlite (not shaker jet) off ebay for 20 bucks. That's a pretty good price! I have a WhisperLite as well and I think it works great .. no problems at all. I would probably go with a white gas stove if I had to do it over again, just because I feel bad throwing out the old canisters each time I ...

Parsons Spring: Is backpacking/camping allowed here?
I'm a bit confused, I read the reviews of this trail and there were several people who said this was a great backpacking trip, however, when looking through Teva-Joe's pictures I saw this: http://hikearizona.com/phoZOOM.php?ZIP=1350 Can someone with a little more knowledge about this trail fill me i...

I went up there yesterday and hiked probably 3 miles before my frozen toes told me to turn back. I don't have any water-proof boots so my feet were wet before I even got to the trail register. It was still fun being in snow for a couple hours .. I'll have to take a partner and be a little more serio...

I figure the earth will keep humans in check just as it does other species. When any population gets too dense for it's environment, mother nature response with starvation, disease, and war. Look at the microenvironment commonly called Africa. Genocide, starvation and disease are working to keep th...

But, unless you have some guideline to present showing other planets or something, isnt it hard to say anything scientific about wether the population is out of control or not? The human population is part of nature wether you like to think so or not. I agree that human population is part of nature...

You're right, 100 years of mis-management by the US Forest Service (zero-tolerance for fires) has brought us into the situation we're at right now. However, logging isn't the answer. Natural fires are low, cool-burning fires that sweep through the forest quickly, only burning the 'litter' (as in sma...
