Brasslite Alcohol stove, etc.

As per some of the other comments, my first concern would be what stove you could safely put in your luggage on an airplane. It would seem to me that it would have to be just a burner (for cannisters) that would have no residue, or a stove that can be washed leaving no potentiallyexplosive forming r...

Sleeping bag fit, etc.

The only thing I did not see listed above to consider, and I may have missed it, is that mummy bags tend to come with hoods and rectangular ones generally do not. If you are picking one without, you may need a hat or "watch cap." A couple people mentioned size. Make sure you fit in the bag...

Povidone Iodine

To quote the late, great, Walt Welch: Betadine solution (NOT scrub, which has soap in it) is an excellent wound cleansing agent. It should be diluted 1 part in 10 parts water (obviously clean water) before using, as full strength Betadine is indeed somewhat harsh on tissue. Another use is water puri...

It kills bacteria, protazoa (including cryptosporidium), and viruses, without leaving a taste in the water. :?: Sounds good, is there some scientific proof that it kills Cryptosporidium? That seems to be the only weak point to many of the chemical treatments. Re water filters and viruses. You could...

Even as several weak weather systems moved through and changed the barometric pressure, the altimeter hung tough and rendered really accurate readings. I understand how a GPS might be able to tell the altitude independant of the barometric pressure, but how does the Casio do it? In Ron Hood's Solo ...
