Re: If you knew that someone will be taking 20-30 people
Wilderness isn't just about LNT and lack of development or amenities. It's about an experience. And any time a large group travels together it violates one of the primary definitions of what wilderness is. If somebody encounters a group of 20, they are not experiencing wilderness anymore. It's a pr...

Lost Leki Trekking Poles
I was parked in the horse lot at First Water. Left my poles leaning against the truck and drove away.
I drove right back to see if they were still there, but they were gone and so was the car that was parked next to me.
It was a white car... that narrows it down, right?

Re: Sign-in Boxes
I generally sign in when there's a Box simply because I'm Hiking so much alone....Sometimes, I can't even leave specifics at Home because I tend to not make up my mind what I'm Hiking until I get there so I tend to just leave a generalization of my location at Home...The Superstitions, the Mogollon...

Re: Sign-in Boxes
I do not sign in or answer probing questions from quizzing forest service workers. A chance and decision one has to make. Those with loved ones might make another. So, you have no loved ones... at all? That would be very sad. OK, I know this is an old thread, but I just saw it and I can answe...

Re: our friend John Scott ( johnr1 ) hit by boulder in Upper
I read this story before they released his name. I only found out yesterday that it was John. He and I went on many hikes together - he helped me climb Brown's Peak, he taught me how to rappel and we did our first ridgeline together. He was the most patient person I've ever met. R.I.P. :lone:

Trish, the Mesa Ventilator was replaced by the Moab Ventilator. They're very similar.

Re: KEEN shoes/boots
You just can't beat the sticking power of the Merrell Moab Ventilators. They're like Spiderman shoes. It's not just the Vibram, but also the more flexible sole that gives you a better grip when you need it the most. I recently bought a pair of Keens for the wider toe box. Comfortable on my foot? Sur...

I have a great idea! I'll drive and you can take pictures when you're not busy holding on for dear life. ;)
Just kidding (once is enough, right?)... I have an appointment this am.

Another Supes contender: There is another one in the Supes that's reportedly 40' tall and has 42 arms and a girth of 16'. If that's the case, then it should qualify in the National Register as the largest, I would think? It's near W111º 20.140" N 33º 26.060". It's located just off the Blu...

I can actually take 5 passengers, assuming they all get along!
2 + me in the front and 3 in the back - all have seat belts. Everybody's gear can fit in the bed of the truck.

Did I see my name in here somewhere? Mike, if you needed help with a shuttle, you should have PM'd me. I hardly ever read this stuff (I stay away from the forum cuz I get in too many fights :guilty: ). Anyway... I can assist (if you ask me nice ;) ). I can take 4 passengers + gear. Let me know. :)

Re: Fellow HAZers
So... once again, the masked man eludes pursuit, disappearing into the night to taunt us another day. Like a wisp of smoke... just when you think it is within your grasp, you close your fist around it and it vanishes without a trace. The few who know the true identity of this mysterious legend would...

Re: Snake Karma: To Kill or Not to Kill
A blanket fear of rattlesnakes comes from ignorance. The deliberate and unprovoked killing of rattlesnakes outside of your personal domain simply because they have the ability (though, not the desire) to best you comes from crippling insecurity. (If you want to impress with a snake kill, put down th...

I posted some nice photos from Gordon Creek back in '09 under the title "Gordon Canyon Creek" (I thought 'falls' seemed a bit generous). http://hikearizona.com/photoset.php?ID=8319
Is there some way you could put my photos under your new listing?
P.S. I feel slighted. ;)
