Re: Gannett Peak WY

I would plan a full 4 days and see what happens. We could always see if we could improve our times. But I figure the extra time would do away with the need for the pack animals. Whether driving or flying depends on how many are going. The big thing is I need to find someone who has done the route be...

Gannett Peak WY

I would like to do Gannett Peak (Wyoming’s state highpoint) sometime this summer (July – August) and I am looking for partners. This is a difficult hike/climb and is often listed as the 2nd hardest route next to Mt. McKinley. But the trail is beautiful. You basically follow a series of alpine lakes ...

Re: Agassiz Peak - South Route

I have been to kachinapeaks.org, but I didn't know they had board for finding partners. I think after this weekend, if the weather clears and they get some good freezes, the slope should be fine. It would be interesting even to just do a couple hundred feet of the upper slope. I have been up the low...

Agassiz Peak - South Route

Is anyone out there interested in going off trail to the summit, or as close as possible to the summit, via the south drainage / avalanche chute? I hate to say avalanche chute, but that is what I am told it is. I have attempted it twice, but both times I was stopped due to deep snow; even with snow ...

Re: Class III Hike/Climb in Phoenix area

Yes, very excited. In fact, although this won't require crampons and ice axe, I would like to up my level of hiking to start doing that. I have a pair of crampons and have used them for light snow hiking in Flagstaff, but I would like to continue and improve those skills. I would like to learn how t...

Re: Summit For Someone

I did Mnt Sneffels last year. If you go late in the summer, like August, you shouldn't need any snow gear. By then the couloir as you turn left from the Lavender Col should be free of snow enough that you can get around it. It is a fantastic hike. It gets a bit freaky as you hang out over a nice dro...

Re: Class III Hike/Climb in Phoenix area

Yes, I did get a permit; it was pretty easy just calling it in. For the MR you don't need to get on a lottery/waiting list. I will bring my GPS and try to make multiple waypoints. I am not going till July 30th, but I will remember to do it. I just need to figure out how to mark new waypoints, while ...

Class III Hike/Climb in Phoenix area

In July I am planning to summit Mnt. Whitney up the Mountaineer's Route. Part of this hike/climb invovles a Class 3 climb. It is not technical but some people have taken ropes. I was wondering if there are any Class 3 hikes in the Phoenix area that I can practice on. I have done the scree shoot up t...
