Re: Question about Sasco to Silverbell Ghost Towns, AZ

@louie It is only a short ways from Red Rock to where Coachway Road intersects by the feedlot. But lots more homes/people there now, more than 20-30 years ago (true everywhere :lol: : wink : ), so no good camp spots there. Sounds like you don't want to drive too far in the RV, but really the best c...

Re: Question about Sasco to Silverbell Ghost Towns, AZ

I have made quite a few trips out to Waterman/Silverbell Mine area since December. Also one to Sasco just to look around, though no flowers this time. I would forget about heading that way from Red Rock, mainly because of mentioned basically permanent flow in the the Santa Cruz there these days. How...

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

@azbackpackr Some of those numbers are bogus or in error. Only light amounts were observed in the Tucson area, mostly a tenth of an inch or less (I had 0.08). The airport had 0.10 not .90. No way 2.15 is real. On the map product below, choose 3 day totals from the menu on left side. https://alertma...

Re: re: Dispersed Camping Near Rucker Lake

Here are details from my trip down there in July. The most privacy is found along the Red Rock Canyon Road that Letty mentioned, though the road gets gnarly not too far in. There are some decent spots there.

@jacobemerick
March would be a great time for it...more daylight and probably (hopefully) more water.

Re: Bassett Peak old trail help

@jacobemerick The abandoned trail segment that Letty is talking about went from Ash Creek (where we all go to enjoy the maple fall colors) near Lower Ash Spring by the present day water tank, through a major side drainage, then up to the ridgeline south of Bassett Peak, where it joined the trail th...

Re: Grand Canyon Permits Moving To Recreation.gov

@chumley Pretty much why I don't really enjoy getting out there to popular places anymore. I try to stick to lesser known and used locations, but even that can end up not going as you might like. Such is life in 2023. (Booz Allen Hamilton, a name I remember from the Reagan days; didn't like them th...

@RedRoxx44
Don't tempt me. :wink: That area was a focal point for flooding last September when Kay followed a similar trajectory to the current storm. Insane winds at higher elevations as well. Should be wild.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

@chumley Yes indeed, the last two storms (Aug 23 & 25) at The Tucson airport gave them an additional 1.77, while at my place (only 4 miles away) a mere .63 fell. Both of us have been underachievers so far this summer. The monsoon season total at TIA this year to date is 4.13, while at my house ...

I agree that he should have stayed at the parking area, and I imagine he realized that in retrospect.

Re: Capitol Gorge Flood Video

I saw that yesterday on the Edward Abbey Matters FB group page. Definitely intense. Interestingly, the best thing any of those folks could have done is stay at the parking lot and ramada area. But when caught in the middle of something like that, it is so easy (and normal) to freak out and make wron...

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

@DixieFlyer I don't know about that, but getting accurate readings can be tricky. Especially using tipping bucket gauges that I use to record data remotely and then send it out to Davis Weatherlink and Weather Underground networks. One thing I learned long ago is that it is important to have backup...

I ended up with a total 7.44 inches of rain at my place for July. Just missed being my wettest month on record, which is 7.47 inches in July 2017.

It's pretty safe to say this incredible rain event is over, down Tucson way anyhow. Here are my final tallies: day 1.26, month 6.80, year 8.53. :)
