Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness
@SuperstitionGuy I like your attitude! This fire is a major bummer for sure. But the land’s not going anywhere. I look forward to exploring once this is over.

I know. It's not like it's going anywhere. Just a bit of a bummer that it's gonna be burnt out. Geez. It's painful to process.

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness
And I am in the middle of moving from Phoenix to Gold Canyon. One of the main attractions was, of course, the proximity to Peralta Trailhead and The Superstitions.

Re: Questions Re: Route Scout
We are strictly talking about tracks over 35 miles, a route ( a collection of tracks & waypoints ) can be 400 miles. Interesting. So, if an entire 210 mile track was split into 35 mile tracks, and these were part of a Route, then I would be able to download offline maps for the entire area? or ...

Re: Questions Re: Route Scout
Thanks Joe. I think I get it. Tracks over 35 miles are assumed driving and will not download map tiles when the route is set to FOLLOW. So, you can import a 400 mile track into Route Scout. However, in order to view the map offline, you have to set it to "follow", and, if it is above 35 mi...

Questions Re: Route Scout
I have a couple of questions regarding Route Scout: 1) What is the actual limit on downloading off-line maps? I think I read that the limit was a 35 mile track. However, searching the forums, some have said that the limit has increased. 2) Is it possible to download a map for offline use, and then u...

Re: Ideas for early November backpacking trip
Superstitionguy. That is tempting. It would certainly make things easier. But I'm planning on doing the John Muir Trail next summer. So, a big part of this backpacking trip is to test my gear, as well as my mettle. 8-[ So, setting up a base and doing loops wouldn't really meet that requirement. Base...

Thanks dudes. I'm leaning toward the lower superstitions. I'll keep an eye on the weather, and see what seems best. The info is much appreciated.

Ideas for early November backpacking trip
I have some time off of work in early November, and am thinking of doing a backpacking trip. Probably 4-5 days, 40-50 miles. It would likely be a solo trip. I've done a good amount of day hiking, but only about little backpacking. My main concern is water availability. I am thinking about the mazatz...

Paul Gosar Town Hall
Arizona congressman Paul Gosar has a town hall scheduled for this Thursday, 2/23 in Gold Canyon. Gosar made a showing at the Bundy ranch (in support of Bundy), when that whole fiasco was going down. His latest bill attempts to repeal EPA restrictions on drilling in National Parks. Just wanted to let...

Re: hiking ban during hot temperatures
I recently spoke with one of the park rangers at Piestawa Peak, who told me that the number of deaths this summer is about average. He blamed the increased media coverage on the parks department's new social media campaign, which results in the hiking death information being more rapidly and widely ...

Re: Waypoints, Tracks, Routes
Thanks big_load. That's pretty much what I thought. Tracks make more sense for trails. I think I'll probably just end up using the downloaded tracks, and set waypoints along the way for trail junctions and important points. I just thought maybe I was missing something, because the default answer to ...

Re: Waypoints, Tracks, Routes
Thanks for the replies. I'm a little confused about the use of routes. I'm not sure what the point of them is exactly. Seems like a track does the same thing, but is more exact.

Re: Waypoints, Tracks, Routes
Thanks for the response. So you use the track itself? You don't create a route from the track before you hit the trail?
Thanks for the workaround for dealing with the trackpoint limit. Not sure what the limit is on the 60CSx, but that might come in handy.
