"Next" has an amusingly unrealistic Havasupai scene and an even more unrealistic romance between Nicholas Cage and Jessica Biel. "The Canyon" takes place at the Grand Canyon and features a scene in Antelope Canyon and is also high on the so-ridiculously-bad-it's-good scale.

Re: Short-Notice Fishing HAZFest
Was just at Chevelon yesterday... it's gorgeous there right now. The big pool right by the campsites closest to the trail was full of fish, but they were some kind of bottom feeder/sucker fish. We didn't spot any trout but hopefully they were just hanging out in the other big pools we didn't check o...

Re: FR 203 Cherry Creek Road Possible Permanent Closure
I asked someone I know who is involved with the Tonto FS and has been researching this issue in an effort to keep the road open to shed some light on the mystery: In the early 1950’s, the Sierra Ancha area between Cherry Creek and Hwy 288 was classified as a Wildlands Area. The area is home to about...

Yesterday I saw a dark grey/black SUV with mud splatters and a HAZ sticker driving north on the 10 around 6pm (somewhere between Tucson and Phoenix)... but I couldn't see who it was since they were driving 90mph.

Aside from doctors/chiropractors, foods that are naturally anti-inflammatory might help ease the pain. Pineapple, ginger, honey, apple cider vinegar, etc. Turmeric is a good one to look into also as a supplement. There are a lot of other supplements that might help... glucosamine, msm, hyaluronic ac...

The canyoneers are miserable on the feet for long trips even with the right fit and extra insoles (at least for me) and I'm not sold on the new design either. The Savants aren't so bad though. From a former die-hard stealth rubber fan, Adidas AX 2 GTX makes an excellent alternative.

I think Rescue rock is also called Sugar Cube boulder, possibly the same as Ice cube? The Eagle wrote:@oceanwithin
On the news last, night they called the area the "Ice Cube"
I also read in the news that one of the injured kids passed away from his injuries as well.

Re: Hikers injured in possible Camelback Mountain fall
This is so sad to hear. My guess from the videos is that it was probably at the spot known as "rescue rock" where there used to be one enormous bomber bolt as the main anchor. You can hike up to the top of the rock and rappel off about 30' with part of it being over-hanging. It's perplexin...

You can scroll down here to find info on the full Deadman canyoneering route here: http://hikearizona.com/decoder=2018 That being said, North Fork of Deadman creek is quite a trip... the whole thing is 20 miles, 2 days, max rap of 240 feet plus a gnarly bushwhack out, although there is a midway exit...

Re: Rappelling waterfalls
It's like anything else in canyoneering, you have to carefully assess the situation and anchors. Waterfall rappels are super fun but there's a limit of how much water you want pummeling down on you during a controlled descent while hanging from a rope. It's not uncommon to build an alternate anchor ...

I love canyoneering... but I have no desire to do crazy stemming like that. It takes an incredible amount of energy to sustain and the consequences of slipping...
Looks like a beautiful canyon though.
