Re: Missing hiker in Mazatzals - gpsjoe (Joe Domin)
Hi all, I have been out of state the last few years but I check this tread from time to time for gpsjoe updates. I've been surprised to see no new news for several years. Is there still no closure to this tragedy?

@azbackpackr
Thanks for looking. I've heard images on google earth can have oddities in the satellite pic based on how the program interacts with the computer your using. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

Re: Missing hiker in Mazatzals - gpsjoe (Joe Domin)
Hello all, just so I don't seem to be posting out of the blue (which I am) I'll give a small intro of myself. I am a long time user of HAZ while I lived in AZ. I happen to move out of state about the time GPS Joe went missing. I have been very interested in this thread and still check it from time t...

Re: Intro to backpacking suggestions for boyscouts
I'll have to plan a menu to before I know how many stoves to take. I read the trail description on hackberry loop. Sounds simple enough. I'll go check out the trail in a few weeks.

Re: Intro to backpacking suggestions for boyscouts
Thanks for the replies so far. I plan on spending a few weeks educating the kids on backpacking followed by a Saturday day hike in the phoenix preserves (or similar) with full packs so the kids have an idea why weight is an issue. With a half dozen boys and a few leaders I plan on taking an jetboil ...

Intro to backpacking suggestions for boyscouts
Hello HAZ members, I've recently volunteered with my local BSA troop. I oversee a small group 12-14 year old kids. In our last meeting we talked about planning some overnight camp trips and all the kids wanted to try backpacking. Including leaders I'm the only one to have ever backpacked...ever! I'm...
