@Jim
If I had to guess, they were using IBC tanks for storage and the HDPE type have a melting point around 130 degree C, ( 226 F). Easy for a fire to compromise.
But only a guess.

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, lost to fire
Sounds like it's easy to bitch about things when you aren't the boots on the ground. What I know is those men and women trying to manage that fire did and are doing their best. Once there was airborne chlorine it gets dicey. Chlorine gas can be lethal at concentrations around 400 ppm and above, with...

Re: Painted rocks being hidden at New Mexico national park. It needs to stop, rangers say
I see them in local parks in the valley and I'm fine with them. And I think I'd be better with ones in the wild with two caveats: 1) That they were painted with locally sourced pigments and techniques (no latex, acrylics or enamels), which would also give them a limited life span while exposed to th...

Re: Painted rocks being hidden at New Mexico national park. It needs to stop, rangers say
Rather odd that we have folks that go gaga over a piece of pottery shard left by aboriginal tribes but a painted rock is blasphemy to LNT. The only difference is time, although I would prefer these kinds of things be done with locally sourced materials and pigments. BTW, removing a natural stone fro...

Re: Hammock use
I have used my warbonnet blackbird up and down the AZT, and there are some places where you have to "go to ground". But honestly, there are way more opportunities to hang than you'd think. If you're using a 3/4 Underquilt with trimmed pad combo for insulation you can handle Just about ever...

Nope. I max out my groups at 15 due to forest service limitations. That size group will be great.

I concur with Blisterfree regarding the Lake as preferable to Molino. I researched it via the Coronado NF website and they profess to having no water there. It's funny how many stock ponds I've found that are labelled "the Lake " on topos.

I put the route together here: http://hikearizona.com/map.php?MY=5179&M=6 We'll be starting on friday, travelling to Rincon Creek since Saguaro NP does not allow camping except on designated sites (14 mi). Saturday we'll be hiking to Manning Camp (I'll get the reservations Monday) That will be 1...

Hiking sections 8-9-10 April 18th through 21st.
I'm section hiking as stated above. I'm an event organizer for the BCH Meetup group, so the trip is open for those members but I'd love to have anyone who wants to knock out those sections. I'll just add HAZ members as my "+1s" Details: 52 miles total 3.5 days to complete I'll take care of...
