That boyscout troop made tons of mistakes. Who hikes the GC during a major heat wave? Those scout leaders, Blah.

Re: Osprey Atmos 50 vs. Camelbak HAWG

I just bought the HAWG, and it's great for bikes, but I would not use it for dayhiking. Myabe look into the CamleBak RimRunner?

Re: Man Vs Wild

That was a pretty neat show. He had used some stuff to make things that I see every day while hiking in the Sky Islands that I would never have thought of using. I was very happy with that show.

But he did some very unnecessary things while he was there haha

Re: Trailbuilding on the Arizona Trail

Sounds great, I like that it's on the weekend. I work with the Forest Service down here so if there is ever any work on the SVRD, I'll definitely be there. But if it's outside of FS boundaries, then I would still like to join. Let me know! :)

Re: Trailbuilding on the Arizona Trail

I am new to the area, and I have over 1,200 hours of trail building experience, including some on the AZ trail. However i am new to this area on southern AZ and I am not familiar with the location that you are talking about. About how far away would that be from Sierra Vista?

Re: Huachuca Mountains

A conservation crew out of Flagstaff (CREC) picked up all the trash back in Nov. I am a ranger here on the Forest and love the area. I only wish I could hike the trails on work time haha. I think I will enjoy my hike this weekend. I can't believe how nice the weather is this time of year in Southern...

Re: Huachuca Mountains

Smuggelers do come through here, however I have been backpacking a bit around here and have yet to see any. Also I work for the USFS here and out LEOs tell me it's really not anything to worry about. Their like snakes, they'll only bother you if you bother them :p

Huachuca Mountains

What is your favorite hike in the Huachucas? I am planning on starting out at Montezuma Pass and hiking to Miller Peak and back on Saturday. I am trying to hike every trail in the Huachucas by the end of this year. So far I have done maybe 20%. But I am looking for a great trail to do on Saturday. A...

Sounds great! But I'm a bit out of the way :(

Let me know if you're ever down in the Huachucas or the Chiricahuas though! :)

Re: New stock (Mule) usage guidelines

Hmmm. Just interesting that they would be from AZ. To work for ACE, you actually have to pay ACE a deposit. Then you get it back at the end of your term. I have never heard of anyone in the states willing to do that. However, the crew leaders are from AZ. Maybe that's who she was talking to?

Re: New stock (Mule) usage guidelines

They were from a non-profit outfit called ACE: American Conservation Experience, which has been doing trail work in the Canyon for some time. My son worked for them for a short time. From what he tells me they get a lot of mostly European volunteers who are willing to come over here and get free ro...

Re: Snow in Chiricahuas in March?

Nope, he's never been out of the east coast. I have lived in Arizona for many years, mostly in and around the Flagstaff area. I just moved down here to the Sierra Vista area and I love it. But, never been here in March so I don't know how the weather will be. I'm hoping the Chiricahuas will not have...

Snow in Chiricahuas in March?

I'm wondering because a friend is coming to visit around mid to late march and I figured what better place to take someone that has never been to the West before than the Chiricahuas. We are planing either a 4 or a 5 night backpacking trip, with plans to camp in both higher and lower evaluations. On...
