Re: Outdoor gear stores that have closed.

Just found my yellow front sling shot a few days ago. Needs some new bands, but is built surprisingly well when I look at it now. The plastic handle looks better then the new ones I see in sportsman currently. Popular and Bob's Bargain bin are the shops I miss.

Re: Summit Hut is closing

So the speedway store also closed?
The last email I got from them said they were closing the Oracle store, but keeping the speedway store open?
I remember the seeing big wall hammock hanging in the Alvernon store window, every time I drove by.

Re: REI Earnings Report

I also could not find anything I wanted to use the 20% coupon on. The last pair or REI pants I purchased (2 years ago on sale) lasted two hikes before the catclaw tore them up. The pair I had from 10 years ago are in better shape then my "newest pair".

Re: Grand Canyon Alligator

An alligator was also found in the San Pedro by/in the reserve. I used to have an article about the alligator that was printed in the Tucson Citizen newspaper (80's?). If anybody has the article I would like to get a copy. The article basically said a few people saw the alligator and nobody believed...

Re: REI Earnings Report

(I wonder if the 14er graphs looks similar to the ones NPS publishes here?) "The COVID-19 pandemic drove fourteener use to an all-time high of 415,000 estimated hikers in 2020, CFI said. Fourteener use has fallen each year since, with CFI’s 2023 count showing a 37 percent drop from the pandemi...

Re: AZT # 12 Hammock

Thanks,
we found a 1 mile section before you get to Apache Peak (heading Northbound) that was good for hammocks. There was not much before or after.

AZT # 12 Hammock

Any recommended hammock hanging camp spots on section #12 (Oracle ridge to American Flag)? Closer toward American Flag. I am asking because because it looks like most everything has been burned in the pictures that are posted?

For drying I use an aquarium pump, attached to the output hose.

Re: Best topo maps to load into GPS

When I got the AZT map CD (about 2 years ago), it had ".png" files. You could only print out the maps. A membership to the aztrail org does gets you access to the gpx files and an updated data book.

AZT #14 Freeman Rd access from Dudleyville

Can you access the Freeman rd trail head from Dudleyville off of 77? Is there water in the Gila at Dudleyville? Is there a bridge over the Gila? Is there any private land access issues coming in from Dudleyville? All the write ups I have seen have accessed the trail head from Freeman rd off of 79 or...

Is your 60CSX in power save mode. I noticed the compass acts funny when I am in powersave mode, but returns to normal when I switch back to normal .

Re: handheld GPS compass gone wrong

Have you tried going in a circle slower and faster during the compass calibration?

Have you tried a hard reset? You turn on the unit with Enter & Page pressed. Save any data you want to keep before the reset. You should lose all the data if the unit is working properly with a hard reset.

Re: Orthotics, do they work?

I use to wear orthotics as a kid. When I played soccer in HS I broke them every 2 months. The plastic was not very good in those days. The Doctor finally got tired of replacing them and said I did not need them anymore. I have not used prescription orthotics since. I will and do use superfeet to imp...

I do not think that the way point in the first post will get you to FR 691.

Re: Galiuro Wilderness access, FR 691

32.410032 N, -110.321267 W is real close to the cabin. There is a trail from the cabin. Is there a way to name waypoints (and individually place then unattached to the route) when you upload the GPX file? The second "scribble" was my attempt to place waypoints for the two turns to get to t...
