Re: Overnight Sat/Sun SB weekend, from PHX?

Boulder Canyon loop from First Water last weekend with some friends, plenty of water to filter out there. A worthy suggestion for decent effort, but certainly nothing crazy. Many campsites available all along the route, we took it clockwise to get in most of the effort on the first day. Ah, cool. T...

Re: Marsh Valley Loop- Good camp spots?

There are several smaller sites in the next half mile. Down another half mile or so, with an awesome view of the mountains to your east, are a few larger and semi-connecting sites to the west side of the flowing creek. http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=477212 I think that's where I camped too! Re: Good Place to Use New Hammocks

i strung up a hammock all over the western supes. trouble is, it's tougher to hang more than one. there is a spot at Pinyon camp where 2 sugar sumacs meet http://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=85972 in a "V" and i've hung there next to crocodile ryan. also, there is a great small cluster o...

Hey,

I did Marsh Valley loop last month and it was great. About 10 miles from parking lot to Charlebois Spring water source.

Re: Camping Flatiron, South Rim Canyons, other overnighers?

OK, back. I'm guessing it was 18-20 miles total, including detour to camp @ Charlebois. Nearly no one else out there. One guy camping right next to the spring head, a solo backpacker nearby, and a family at the base near the wash/charlebois trail. Man, definitely good beta on heading to Charlebois. ...

Re: Camping Flatiron, South Rim Canyons, other overnighers?

@surfer349 I would recommend making the approx. 1.5 mile detour off your Marsh Valley Loop and up the Dutchman to the Charlebois Spring area. ... It will only add three miles to your weekend, but I think you will be happy you made the side trip. Awesome beta. SO i printed out maps and a list of dir...

Re: Camping Flatiron, South Rim Canyons, other overnighers?

Out of those three I would recommend Marsh Valley for this weekend. Temps in the Supes will be much more moderate/pleasant (75/50 ish). There are some reliable springs in the Supes as well as some seasonal water sources but I haven't been out there recently so I'd hesitate telling you to rely on an...

Alrright, we finally have some rain this week and I finally have a free weekend. What do you think is best? I'm stuck. I've got Saturday night free, so thinking of driving out and hiking in Saturday afternoon, camping along the trail, hiking out Sunday morning. Pine Mountain Verde Loop (http://hikea...

How to decide on weather conditions?

So my question is about weather conditions and traveling for a hike. What do you do to make the judgement call on a hike/overnight trip? Just look up the zip code? For example, I live in Phoenix area, but want to do some over night hikes around Rim country and the Superstitions. How do you check for...

Camping Flatiron, South Rim Canyons, other overnighers?

Hey guys, So I'm back on the trail after a broken collarbone in July/August. I'm pissed because I missed all the hot weather and had some trips planned to canyons and water around Payson. Anyway, I'm trying to find some good fall hikes to do with the Fiancee. We have all the gear, are experienced, j...

Re: Hells Gate in July? Hammocks at the bottom?

Awesome.

OK, so I've secured the use of a friends lifted F150 if needed.

OK, so with your help, its narrowed down to Whitebox/Hanging Gardens or Kinder Crossing. Man, i'm leaning on the Whitebox. yea?

So I've got both tents and hammocks. What would yall bring for either one of those?

Re: Hells Gate in July? Hammocks at the bottom?

I love the tips guys! Yea, I've never done any of these Rim hikes before, so its all unfamiliar territory. I guess I'm just looking for a nice overnight hike for Saturday to get away with the Fiancee, somewhere that's not too crowded and we won't die from the heat. A friend recommended Ellison Creek...

Re: Hells Gate in July? Hammocks at the bottom?

Thanks for the tips. So where else would yall recommend I go for some water and hike/camp with the girlie? I've never done any of the rim stuff before and do not know what's good. Yea yea yea, I can read the guides, but most don't have specific details other than trail directions. Nothing talking ab...

Hells Gate in July? Hammocks at the bottom?

So I'm new to the forum. Hi. Anyway, I've got all the gear and we (Fiancee and I) are both able-bodied and fit. I know that the Hells Gate is marked as DIFFICULT and some even say dangerous. I'm aware. I'm looking to hike in Saturday morning, camp that night, hike out Sunday morning. Anyway, I've ne...
