Re: Any snow updates- passages 18 and higher?
Thanks everyone for all the updates. Looks like Snotel shows average snow pack is around 40% in Arizona now.

Any snow updates- passages 18 and higher?
Hello, it's been warm for the last couple of weeks. Just wondering if anyone has snow reports for passages 18 and higher- Superior and further north? Thanks

Re: Hiking the AZT in Early March
@Sighman I am looking to hike with some people for the first 300 miles in March Nobo. I will be driving from Colorado and we could use both cars. I have another friend I will hike with starting on April 1st from mile 300. I hike 2-2.5mph averaging 12-15 mile days. I am 50 years old. If you are inte...

Re: AZT Thru Hikers in Spring: 2016
Hi: I am planning a NOBO thru hike of the Arizona Trail starting sometime in March. I'd love to find a hiking partner or two that has some personal knowledge / experience with water issues along the trail. My biggest concern with this trip has to do with water sources, necessary cache locations, et...

Re: Which passage to take thru Flagstaff
Thanks Sandy, but I am still a bit confused. He map shows a shorter west route and a possibly longer east route. Which route is the standard AZT trail. Which trail is the resupply route?

Which passage to take thru Flagstaff
I am looking at the Data Book and it shows 2 routes through Flagstaff. One is called Alt. Passage 33 access. Which trail do you recommend thru Flagstaff? The west trail or the east trail. What are the pros and cons?

Flagstaff and snow levels
What is the earliest you can hike the AZT through Flagstaff and then further north through the North Rim in the Grand Canyon. We don't mind encountering some snow, just not several feet of it. And yes, I am aware that the North rim road does not open until May 15.

Re: Food and Shirt
I own an Ursack that's bear proof. Not a single critter has managed to chew into this bag, it's awesome. Ursack now makes a lighter cheaper bag that is not bear proof, just critter proof.

Re: AZT Thru Hikers in Spring: 2016
Hi Doug and Liz, actually 10-14 mile days sounds perfect! I was worried you might be doing 20 mile days. I am fine with not crack of dawn starts. My pace is 2- 2.5 mph. I am 50 yrs old, happily married no kids, living in Colorado. Feel free to email me at Lisashik@yahoo.com Maybe I could join you gu...

Re: Favorite Water Treatment?
When I am drinking clear water in the mountains, I have had great results with Aqua Mira drops. They are lightweight and effective. But with desert water, I prefer a filter. I feel better using a filter if the water source is covered in cow poop. Yes, been there, done that... Do you guys think a min...

Inflatable sleeping pad or foam pad?
Well, I love my inflatable Neo-air pad, but getting a hole in it in the desert would be no fun. For those of you who have done the AZT or lots of backpacking in Arizona, what are your thoughts on inflatable pad vs foam pad? I've done several trips in the Grand Canyon and only once punctured my pad. ...

Re: AZT Thru Hikers in Spring: 2016
Hi Doug and Liz, I am thinking about doing a long section of the AZT in the Spring. How many miles a day are you guys planning on doing? I am not sure if I want to go solo, so perhaps there are other solo women, or groups going.
