I know this would add a little weight, but would a very thin pad protect the air mattress from thorns? I really like sleeping on my air pad.

Thank you. I was kind of worried about that being at 9000 ft. Maybe I'll look for a lower elevation route. My timeline is kind of set.

Early Spring Temperatures
I am considering hiking the southern half (sections 1-20) of the AZT starting mid-Feb. What can I expect for temperatures? Could that be too early a start if there is snow fall this winter?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am glad I asked because I didn't realize May was already so hot there. Maybe next year I will be able to get out earlier in the year and do the south section.

I posted this on trail forms too, but this forum seems to be more used for the AZT. I am planning a few weeks this May on the AZT. If you could only hike a few weeks on the trail, would you recommend starting at the Utah or Mexico border? Both seem to have their benefits. Obviously the Grand Canyon ...
