@cactuscat - Looks like he also missed the hashtag #doitforthegram :) Comments disabled, “Seven Summits 1/7”, hopefully he is better prepared in his future attempts. @big_load This is from an article I found.. “ While he navigated the rocky, snow-covered ridgeline, Vasto slipped off the trail and s...

Re: Coconino NF proposes trailhead transit expansion
Apparently non service dogs are allowed only if they can fit in a pet carrier and can be stored out the the doorway and aisle.

Re: Hiking etiquette with dogs
My dog is 3 now, supposedly fully mature for her breed. Still have her on a 6 foot biothane leash when we hike, occasionally I’ll let her drag the leash when I have a good field of view to see if other hikers are coming so I can pick her leash back up. Her drive is too strong for me to risk her wand...

Re: Coconino NF proposes trailhead transit expansion
@nonot I recognize the challenge of balancing the various interests involved, but it seems quite clear that protecting the wilderness from overuse is at the bottom of the list. Exactly the point I highlighted when I sent in my comment via email. Provided some suggestions I hope they will consider i...

Re: Painted rocks being hidden at New Mexico national park. It needs to stop, rangers say
Recently ran into painted rocks up here, fortunately in true Sedona fashion only littered up to the first 0.3 miles of the hike.

Re: Coronavirus and hiking
Nice quick read... https://americanhiking.org/blog/hiking-responsibly-faq-covid-19/ Do I have to stick within my own neighborhood for a hike/walk/run? '.....Not only does crowding make it impossible to follow social distancing, but it puts extra wear and tear on trails and other park infrastructure ...

Re: Coronavirus and hiking
Some are calling for a complete closure of trails to non locals. If they were trails in a Sedona city park and were paid for by Sedona residents, then I could understand and probably agree with that line of reasoning...but it seems to me that most of the trails in the Sedona area are in the Coconin...

Re: Coronavirus and hiking
I think these misconceptions will keep a large number of people away from less popular remote trailheads; opting to do laps in their back yards instead. Agreed.. One could only hope. ———— Last weekend despite closure of popular trailheads tourists started swarming in after 10am. There was a lone ci...

Re: Coronavirus and hiking
It will be interesting to see what the trails here will look like this weekend with the closure of popular trail heads and one trail. FS and Law enforcement will be patrolling those areas supposedly and will issue citations. I’ve thought about the closures a bit more and I hope they shutdown the res...

Re: AZ National Forest Closures
@DixieFlyer I wonder the same. The last thing our first responders need is a rescue at Bear or Wilson. My heart skipped a bit when I saw the headline. Overall good choice of trails that are certainly heavily trafficked. It will be interesting to see how the trails will look like this weekend.

Re: Coronavirus and hiking
“Sedona Mayor advocates to close most popular trails and trailheads” https://www.sedonaaz.gov/Home/Components/News/News/5087/473 That will certainly prevent tourists from continuing to pour into town. I must admit I will be very unhappy if locals cannot use the trails, most of us can walk to a trail...

Re: Put On Your Freakin' Headphones
Today after a peaceful 4 mile loop I was subjected to Kelly Clarksons “Since you’ve been gone” on full blast about 0.3 miles from the trailhead. I’ve had the song stuck in my head since then *insert vomit emoji*. I don’t understand at all the need for boom boxes on the trail and I like listening to ...

Re: Coronavirus and hiking
Last week I thought people were taking the pandemic seriously, only would see a couple of people on the trail. Wrong. By the the end of the hike after close to 11am.. it was business as usual..tourists everywhere, no regard for physical distance or even basic trail etiquette. Didn’t matter if I holl...

These days it's the Garmin 6x Pro Solar for me. More comfortable on the wrist than the 5x and with the solar, charge infrequently vs. the 5x. (even though I use the former to log more activities).

For hiking/trail running attire? Orange. I just realized that color might not stand out too well around where I hike/run. Whoops.

Re: Hiking etiquette with dogs
Very old thread but for the past few months I've been hiking with our new pup so i've been interested in hiking etiquette when it comes to dogs. Around here there are leash laws but I see quite a number of off leash dogs on the trail. My pup is leashed on the trails but there are times I put the lea...
