Love the area around Questa. A ton of options including Rio Grande Del Norte, and the Sangre De Cristo.

Re: Gila NF near Alma, NM / Mogollon mtns

Sheridan Corral Rd. leads to Holt Apache trail and Johnson Cabin (and points beyond). The trailhead is at a lower elevation and supposedly easier to access much of the year. I was out there in April of 21’ and the trails were clear and well maintained.

Re: Best place to start a hike to Reavis Ranch?

I am a dumbass who did this in June of 2020 and I had a very unpleasant final few miles back to my truck at Roger's Trough due to the really hot weather. Not advisable in the summer.

Mike Judge was just interviewed on Joe Rogan's podcast. Only thing he wished he could have captured in Idiocracy is social media. Questioning this reproduction mountain you seem to be climbing in your last statement. It may be hard, but hardly an issue of resiliency.

I was just up in the La Sal's. Pretty country and I remember seeing some lakes on the maps I was looking at. There weren't too many people either.

Re: 2022 Fire Season

@Hytsmjn Depends on how you would like to be cooked. I believe medium rare dictates a minimum distance of 15 miles.... Seriously though, I came too close for comfort in 1994 backpacking in the North Cascades during the Hatchery Complex fires. My last morning found the lake basin I was camped in ful...

Re: 2022 Fire Season

@chumley 'Attack' uniformly refers to the act of fire suppression most regularly putting water on fire. The National Fire Prevention Association, which has established the standards used in training for firefighters and the various methodologies employed in fire fighting use this vernacular through...

Sorry for forum creep but after reading the telegraph fire closure order for the Pinals this weekend, wondering about any such similar work being done out there.

Road blocked by medium sized boulder and Toyota with broken front axle. Otherwise normal feces show. If they ever clear the flotsam and jetsam please do not drive this unless you are experienced with a solid modified rig.

Re: Union wants to close some trails because "ermagherd so warm"

I understand and support the idea of data collection and analysis. The problem with this idea is that most data that is collected by municipal fire departments is connected to insurance reporting responsibilities relating to the property loss suffered by individuals and businesses. The second issue ...

Re: Union wants to close some trails because "ermagherd so warm"

The issue here is what we can expect from our first responders. Is it unreasonable to assume that the peril of the teams engaged in multiple rescues on a daily basis is within the bounds of responsibilities of the Phoenix Fire Department? I will only go up Camelback on what I believe will be the hot...
