Re: Is this idea feasible?
@nonot Yeah this is probably the best advice. Stay in the AZ North of Pine. You’ll still hit some warm weather, but should be manageable.

Re: Monument Fire
Is it sad that the 1st thing that came to my mind is maybe the fire will burn up all the trash the illegals have left?
I climbed Miller Peak a few years back, nice area, sad to see all these places burning up.

Re: Phantom Ranch Questions
Just remember, what you steal from Phantom Ranch, you have to haul out on your own back. It is FAR more common to have people sneak stuff into your backpack or just abandon all of their gear altogether rather than stealing. That is the truth, before you leave to hike out make sure your friends didn...

Re: Car camp near or in the Grand Canyon
Right before you get into Tusyon there is a forest road on the right. Drive in a couple minutes and you'll see some spots that have been used for camping with established fire rings and whatnot. I've camped there a number of times.

Not necessarily true, any outdoor store I have been to in Italy carries the threaded canisters. Can't speak for other places though.hikeaz wrote: (Not to mention that, as it stands, the threaded canisters are much harder, if not impossible, to find than GAZ when outside N.A.)

Re: landed in egypt
First rule of being in the military: IT is easier to get forgiveness than permission. ;) I would generally agree and was hoping for that approach. The command new about the trip though and I was directly told I will not travel to Egypt at this time. Disobey that and I could pretty much kiss my care...

Re: landed in egypt
Doesn't look as if I will be going now, was supposed to leave Thursday, had leave approved and now my commander canceled it due to the state dept warning on deferring non-essential travel. $2000 out the door. The military can really suck sometimes.

Re: Day hike to the river and back
If you in shape and feel prepared I say go for. You could take SK both ways and it's 14 miles. or take BA up and your looking at 17 miles. April is a good time of year, I would get an early start, plan for the first shuttle of the day. Even better go on a full moon and hike down Kaibab in the dark, ...

if you come to alexandria, look me up. i have room if you want to stay there a night. Thanks for the offer and it would be nice to have a local tour guide, but it doesn't look like we will be headed to Alexandria. <2 weeks away now, can't wait. Just hope our hotel lifts the snorkeling restrictions ...

If I were a little closer to Spain and it were still open I would be all over that. As it is some Via Ferreta routes in Italy are sketchy enough.

Yes Petra is the main reason we are going to Jordan. We will only have a day a Petra, but we plan on making it a long one. The other day we are going to Jerash and the Dead Sea.

Really hoping things cool down very quickly there. Have a 10 day trip planned about a month from now to go there. 2 days in Jordan, 3 in Sharm El Sheikh, 3 days in Luxor and the last day in Cairo. So far was just have airfare booked, but are obviously holding off on any planning at this point. Josh ...

Re: Where is customer service winning you over?
I've taken advantage of REI's return policy quite a few times so they won me over that way. Their prices usually are not the best but occasionally they have some pretty good sales. There garage sales can be great too if you don't mind spending some time in line. The people are usually helpful but I ...

Re: GPSjoe-Joe Domin (Shared Good Memories)
I only got to do a hike or two with Joe, but had a few communications on different places and trip ideas and always enjoyed chatting with him at various AZH get togethers. He always inspired me because as a guy in my 20's always trying to find the next challenge or adventure I would have my eye on a...

Re: REI Stoke 19 Daypack--Clearance Sale
Well when I was deployed or TDY for over half of last year and she tries to take the dog out for an adventure wearing one of my packs that doesn't fit, she does need some things for when she's "on her own". Not sure what your implying, this pack is way too small for me.

Re: REI Stoke 19 Daypack--Clearance Sale
This looks like a good little pack. Pretty small but just needed it for the wife to carry a few things on her own. Holds just enough for a few water bottles on side pockets, has a bladder pocket too. Inside pockets enough for a rain jacket, first aid kit and lunch. Plus it has hipbelt pockets for ea...

Thanks, I picked one up for the wife. She doesn't normally like to carry anything but this seems small enough and able to hold the essentials.
