A friend and I are planning to start in early to mid-March on the AZT heading nobo. Just wondering who else is planning on hiking the AZT this spring and maybe we can post that information under this thread.
Doug/Trew and Liz/LaZorra are starting around March 10- on a Thursday. I have a ride from Florence down to the border on that day.

Re: AZT Thru Hikers in Spring: 2016
Hi there. Throwing my name in the hat. I'm Alex, currently in Vancouver, BC, planning to start at the south TH on or around March 13th, going solo, going slow (or at whatever pace my arthritic body allows). See you all out there!

Any update on your plans to get to the TH on March 3?steady wrote:I'm flying into Tucson very late on March 1st, and hoping to get started either the 2nd or the 3rd. I'm fairly moderate paced, and pretty happy to hike alone. I would be happy to share transportation if anyone is starting at the same time though.
Liz and I will be starting then.

I have a shuttle arranged for the morning of the 2nd. It's quite possible we might see each other at some point though.Trew wrote:Any update on your plans to get to the TH on March 3?

Me and my cousin are section hikers and we will be doing Segments 1 & 2 on March 12th and 13th. We will be driving down on the night of the 11th. So you would need to be willing to camp with us (we don't bite) overnight and deal with us setting up a shuttle vehicle for our hike. PM me if you want a hitch. I have space for 3.

Re: AZT Thru Hikers in Spring: 2016
Just went out to cache water for passage 19 and was pleased to see water in the 2 water troughs that I passed on the way to the trail. From that, I'm assuming - but won't say for sure - that the trough on FR120 also has water. BUT, the water tank above it probably only has a foot of water left in it. If that is the supply tank for the other troughs, may dry up within a month. Did leave 1 gallon at FR120 marked for AZT hiker. After I finish this passage next week, any water I don't use will be relabeled and moved to carsonite for general hiker use. At least for now, encouraged to see the water that is out there.

@sandyfortner
Sandy, do you mean the trough at the start of trail #120 (not FR120, don't know where that is), just off of FR83? Note that it's not on the water report nor in the databook and is probably around mile 19.9 or so. Anyway, fwiw, there was nice water there over a year ago, 2/16/15.

Yes. Sorry, NOT FR120 but, yes, T # 120. And, yep, looks like water in the spring is much more likely than in the fall - which of course makes sense. I took the precaution of caching for next week based on a friend's experience of no water last Oct. in that area. Better safe than sorry!

This was the water in that area last fall if it helps any. My mileage is opposite for I was going Southbound.
