Girl Gang
Arizona Wildlife Views has a great article on Coatis. The title is Girl Gangs. It states that the girls travel together with the young and the mature males go on there own unless breeding season. The females all have their young around the same time and take care of each others including keeping the ticks off, breastfeeding, protecting, etc. The males take care of themselves individually and don't do a good job keeping the ticks off. Interestingly it says the females are called Coatis and the males Coatimundis. It's about a five page article that I found interesting so I thought I would share.

Re: Girl Gang
I would have thought it should be called Girl Bands. If you encounter one, they sure do make "music"!
I'm not sure what my spirit animal is, but I'm confident it has rabies.

That's just like elephants (except for the tick part). Small world ;)Tortoise Hiker wrote:the girls travel together with the young and the mature males go on there own unless breeding season. Re: Girl Gang
I found out when living in Costa Rica, where I saw coatis from time to time, that there are two species in the world. One is our familiar one, which is found all the way down to Central America, which is why the coatis in CR looked so familiar to me. The other kind is the red coati, in South America. They have different names in different countries. In Costa Rica they're called "pizotes."
