North of Phoenix, Wet Beaver Creek Campground for vehicle (good base camp and hike into Wet Beaver Creek Wilderness.

Northwest of Phoenix, Burro Creek Campground for vehicle and explore Burro Creek.

East of Phoenix, the Superstition Wilderness Area.

Take note of the expected weather and plan/prepare accordingly.

I'm as far from camper as they come but many seem to be pretty happy with the Garden Valley area or Hackberry Spring area.

The Marsh Valley to Charlebois area is more exciting but pretty you'll be adding some distance to the destination.

Burro Flats is a nice introduction to the northwest side of Phoenix

not so sure on car camping, maybe around Canyon or Apache Lake?

Lots of hunters up along the Apache Trail, most of the good spots are taken and the campgrounds can/may be full.

Hacberry Springs visit during the week, the area may have several backpackers spending the night. Mostly overlooked Marsh Valley has been getting more visitors and route finding may be a little difficult.
