Camping below the rim

Post by youngboy »

We are looking at a overnighter on the Bright Angel trail in the spring, and we would like info on camping, like if it is only allowed at the BA campground or if there's dispersed camping or what.thx

My gun and I live a very sheltered life! The NRA web site doesn't have any threads about watching people poop and digging for brown trout!

I quit taking that medicine, I was starting to recognize objects around me. :o

I would probably have to disagree w/ ya'll on that one. I could probably find better, to a certain manner; so to speak that is.

Palisades Use Area/Beamer Trail Bivouac Locations

Post by festgeo42 »

I just scored a permit for Tanner/Palisades/Palisades/Tanner (4 nights) for 5 folks. Four of us are GC vets, and we have one potential newby (but he is a medical professional...could come in handy). The Backcountry office (ranger who happened to answer) said camping was legal/possible about 1/2 mile downriver from the confluence (i.e. Colorado/Little Colorado). I'm not sure he meant at river level or on the Beamer itself. We travel very light (no tents) and can make do with just about any level space. Being at river level with water access would be a huge advantage over being up high and dry. Most of the accounts on the internet are a little vague on bivouac possibillities in the neighborhood of the confluence (maybe they don't want to fess up to something) and I notice most folks seem to strike out for a day hike from Palisades or even Commanche Creek. I'd really appreciate any reliable intel.

Thanks

Camping possibilities at mouth of Palisades Creek. My understanding is that no camping is allowed at or near confluence of Little Colorado, unless this policy has been revised recently(??)

There's a beach downstream from the LCR that I've camped on, as best as i could figure it was legal, being on or just outside the closure area boundary. Its hard to be precise about that, but then again as long as you make a honest effort to camp good and far from the LCR, you'll be functionally legal - the main point of the regulation is to keep people from congragating at the confluence, which everyone would do if you could (wouldn't you?)
