Hikes in RIM country

Post by nomadkona »

A friend of mine is coming in from DC. We are looking for some great hikes in Rim Country. We are fit and able, but unsure of which hikes are the best use of time. We will be hiking at the end of May and will have 4-5 days to explore different trails.

Also, If you know of any camping spots in that area we would love some input.

Thanks

The Cabin Loop is a nice way to spend a couple days.

A great choice! Myself & a few others are heading up to camp and hike these 4 Cabin Loop Trails the end of May also!
(with numerous free, primitive camping spots located all along/off Rim Road-FR300 and spur road FR95..sedans OK when dry with high clearance vehicle preferred). Note: a popular location for weekend campers/hikers/ATV'ers Fri-Sunday)

Horton Creek is a nice little streamside stroll. Pretty decent workout, too.

what part of the Rim are we talking? it runs west to east about 200 miles in length. if you can pinpoint a specific area, maybe I can help you chose a fun hike...

I Didn't have any certain area in mind. We will probably shoot over to Mountain bike sunrise on a Sunday and camp Thurs to Sat. I wanted to base my camping spot somewhere central to a number of good hikes. So where ever the trails are, we will camp somewhere in the vicinity.

I would like to find somewhere that is not overly populated to Camp.

Thanks for the information and the trail suggestions. There are so many areas that I would like to hike it's tough to choose. But I want to get the most out of my time.
