Word. Usually 3 bucks for me, though.

had the pleasure of eating at Guayo's El Rey in Miami after a hike last week. taco is reasonably good, just machaca and lettuce- no cheese.
but then the enchiladas with the homemade smooth yet slightly acrid sauce was a winner. I think Guayo's is the place, libby's el rey is not what you want.* Guayo's salsa is above the average salad of boring tomatoe sauce with what i believe to be apple cider vinegar (the authentic salsa's secret ingredient)
i'll be back to sample the tamale and the relleno.

*libby's el rey is in a broke down looking building waiting for an electrical fire... and just a few cars in the lot.
Guayo's el rey was packed with locals and more came in as we were leaving- no official wait time just full of Miami folk who know what rocks!

It's got my vote and Te-wa's vote I think we can officially declare it the winner. :D

That's not a capital offense, but I'd say it's a serious misdemeanor. Few meals are as satisfying as good shredded beef taco and some refried beans, except maybe a good pulled pork sandwhich or frybread and pintos.

This isn't about what's cheap. It's about what's good. Taco Bell certainly is not good. I agree with Joe. BOOM!

I respectfully disagree. Choosing a post-hike meal is the most important decision of the week. It's a shame to waste a hunger like that on anything but what will satisfy you most.

I agree with Big-load. When I'm on my third or fourth day of dehydrated meals, thinking about that end of trip meal is what motivates me to keep going. My favorite is a great New York strip steak with Cabernet Sauvignon or Mexican food & Tequila. My buddy Morel loves a great Cheeseburger. I would have more dehydrated food before I would eat a TacoBell.

Whaaaa? I'm quite shocked and frankly a bit disappointed at the widespread hating of Taco Bell. I think it's rather delicious.

You shouldn't be. Taco Bell is quite deserving of it's hated status. How many stomachs must be wrecked before everyone finally realizes how evil Taco Bell is? If "mexican" fast food must be eaten, then Del Taco should be the only choice. There is no Del Taco here in Ohio, so if someone would kindly send me some chicken soft tacos, that'd be great!

Whats your address in Ohio? And should we send it DHL, FEDEX or snail mail :scared: ?

I'll admit, Del Taco is good, but so is Taco Bell. I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

I'm not a Taco Bell hater. I ate there last night and it's my main source of hot sauce packets for backpacking, but I wouldn't eat there if I had the same quality of Mexican food so widely available as you AZ folks. I'm grateful for the one good Mexican restaurant in my area, but it costs almost as much to drive there as to eat.

Hey Preston, El Coronado is my favorite place so far in Safford. Do you have any other recommendations?

Edit: Maybe it was El Charro, I can't remember without seeing it. It was on the South Side of Main Street, I think on a SW corner.

I just don't care that much. Some of the food from Taco Bell tastes okay and doesn't cost very much. I don't eat there after hikes, anyway, but only if I'm in a hurry, when I'm on the road. Some of the chicken items are okay. I just am not very picky, anyway. It is a lot better than trying to eat something from the convenience store next door.

What do you say this thread gets converted into a topic on the forum titled "Best Post Hike Greasy Spoons" or something along those lines, as a place to spread the word about places to eat out and about in AZ?

nice when the proprietor makes a personal visit to your table. she wasnt Gordon Ramsay but she did make a round to ask about our sastisfaction (or lack of... but that doesnt exist at El Rey's) and that is important, and a nice touch. I have witnessed in my years of dining out that when the chef, (usually the owner but not always) or the owner pops in for a personal visit to the table, the restaurant becomes a "just like home" atmosphere. Good stuff for sure. And fwiw, 4 of us ate dinner w/ soft drinks including a negra modelo for a mere $35. Ive spent that on just me, at some places. I would rather burn at the stake than to skip El Rey's for a couple o' buck savings for the sheit taco bell serves. but, that's just me.
