I have an idea...and I think it's from watching to many of these survival TV shows on Discovery. But bare with me....
A short overnighter (3-5 miles) where the only form of backpack you can bring is a brown grocery bag (modified with duct tape if necessary to make sure it stays in once piece).
I am thinking of trying this out when it's still slightly warm out...so maybe early Sept. I figure you can get 5 or 6 lbs in that bag without it falling apart...maybe more if you use lots of duct tape...but that might be called cheating when it's all said and done.
Anybody intersted? Time to go UBER LIGHT!

OK... I'm seeing a lot of Brag and no Bag! If we wait much longer, we're going to need insulated, water-proof bags!! And judging from the two entries so far, I think a rules committee is in order to assure BBP (Brown Bag Parity). There seems to be the very real danger of escalation.
I volunteer to help form the committee and start the BLT's (Bag Limitation Talks).

Small pack, bivy tent, short hike, sounds like fun.

Re: The Brown Bag Challenge!
You may want to proclaim a National Brown Bag Backpack Weekend... it might be fun to see the pics of what folks come up with... then, of course you are likely to have to draft rules... and possibly set up class and categories to cover the variables... interesting potentials for corporate food sponsorship for team hikers....
