Supes Backpack over NY

Post by GrottoGirl »

SAHC is planning a 4 day/3 night backpack over NY: Boulder Canyon - Calvery trail - Dutchman's - Peralta - West Boulder Canyon - Dutchman's - Boulder Canyon Trails.

I'm wanting to verify water....

I saw a report for White Rock Springs in Marsh Valley for September but I was wanting more current information. Has anyone been by there recently - or plans to go by there in the next week or so? How about Willow Springs on the West Boulder Canyon trail?

Thanks :)

I've never found White Rock Springs. If you find it, please post pictures. Willow Springs seems to be semi-reliable, but it is way out there...hopefully with the rain earlier in the week it will get things trickling

For guaranteed water, you might want to make a detour to Charlebois. Everything else might be dependent on the weather. Boulder Canyon and Dutchman might have some small pools dependent on recent rain. If you're coming all the way from southern AZ to do a Supes backpack in the First Water/Peralta area, you'll want to check out the Charlebois area anyways.

I am doing a day hike of the Full Dutchman, 18 miles, with a couple of friends on Jan 2, so we will watch for your group. Who all is going besides you and Joel?

You will have no water problems, I would be willing to bet, with this series of storms blowing through.

Oh, sounds fun! If I didn't have other plans, I would have considered going! I will watch for you guys when I am on the Dutchman trail on the 2nd, then! Maybe will look at Steve's website to see if he posted the route.

He did post a route - but there might be slight changes to it. You can always join us for Christmas (24 - 26) 2 nights in the Catalinas. We still have some space. You know, I've never met you and would love too!

Well, thank you! I will be spending Christmas in the White Mtns. with my family. But thanks for the invite. It does sound fun! I am going to try to make it to the SAHC winter cookout and will do the long hike from Sabino to Catalina State Park that day.

Did you ever find any reliable water reports for your New Years trip? I'll be out there for 3 nights also but haven't decided my exact route. I'd be curious if you have ideas other than Charelebois and LaBarge Spring? I'm not too sure...

Also, I imagine you looked at the weather report? Low of 21 degrees?!? Is that a typo? :o

No other reports as of yet. We've decided to stay a couple nights at Charlebois and one night closer to Battleship for reasons other than water...

Reavis Ranch typically has water, too. Last year, we were at Reavis for Christmas and it got so cold our water was freezing before it was dark. It was a great trip even though it was cold. We stayed at Reavis Ranch and at the confluence of Fish Creek and Rogers Canyon.

Ok, have you looked at the weather forecast at all? I am pretty sure you will not have any water problems, unless it is getting across creeks that are flooded.

anyone heading to the ranch via the Reavis TH should keep in mind the road closure.

After spending lots of time out there lately, I definitely second that one. There's filterable water everywhere!

Hi all! I think I know the answer to this but I'm heading out to the sups from Colorado for President's Day and I'm hoping to find water somewhere other than Charlebois. Does anyone know if there was enough of a dump over new year's to keep some water flowing out there?

Flowing decently out there now in many creeks, though not to any extreme, I would think it is still going to be trickling by President's Day in several areas...more than just Charley boy at least.

Creeks tend to have sections of flow and sections of dry. Maybe we'll get a little more rain by then?
