I am a little confused about an area I have been hiking. I thought it was "massacre" trail/falls area. I looked into and found that Massacre falls is more to the south of where I have been going. I have been starting at Jacobs CC, heading striaght up a small unmarked trail that meets up with a wider defined trail leading towards the 3 "columns " in a triangle, and then towards the draw with the small falls? It is to the south of praying hands. Anyone got a name for that area?
Thank you from a newb.
little info please

Re: little info please
Sorry... I haven't heard of any particular name for that area.
If by chance, your objective was in fact the butte above the Massacre Grounds or Massacre Falls itself, from Jacob's Crosscut TH you will want to head in a slightly more easterly direction when leaving the TH, and you should start coming across a reasonable number of cairns to lead you until you connect with the well-defined part of the Massacre Falls trail up and around the eastern side of the peak I like to call "mini-Weaver's Needle." (See the GPS track description for more info on heading the correct direction)
Here's a good GPS route (with comments) if you have a GPS:

You may already have visited the Massacre Falls hike page, but here it is for easy reference:

Re: little info please
I think the area you're talking about is included in this hike: Praying Hands Loop
http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=2326
I don't think the area has any special name, though.

Ah yes I do see part of it on the "praying hands loop map" except I have been continuing up past the 3rd formation into the draw with the water run offs.Tough_Boots wrote:I think the area you're talking about is included in this hike: Praying Hands Loop

You're welcome!SSpranKK wrote:Thank you!
BTW, according to the forecast Massacre Falls just may be a real sight to see during/after the rain. If you can, I'd recommend it! I'm already thinking of a jaunt out there... and very possibly while it's raining.
