Hiking Pants

Post by Hoffmaster »

I am looking for a new pair of hiking pants. I have a pair of Railriders Extreme Adventure Pants http://www.railriders.com/store/RailRid ... XTP2?Args=
but the crotch is way too baggy and it inhibits my movement. Does anyone know of some great overbuilt nylon hiking pants that do not restrict movement? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Pay money for camis? Part of the deal is, I have never had to pay a dime for camis! :) Have to say, though, those yellow ones are pretty spectacular!

Question #2: Opinions on rain pants? Comments on durability and waterproofing over time? Overheating without full-length leg zips? Which ones to stay away from?

For most AZ situations I find an umbrella of better use than rain pants/jackets or forget trying to stay dry and wear wool.

Rain pants have their place, but it's a small one for me, mainly for cold-weather rain (30s to mid-40s) that's heavy enough to be worth the trouble. I also wear them for XC skiing and snowshoeing in much colder temperatures when the wind is whipping. I only wear full-zips for winter stuff.

An umbrella sounds like a solid idea. Inexpensive, and I could even do away with my hat...

When I was hiking back from Reavis Falls, i ran into a guy wearing an umbrella hat. Pretty cool. Don't know if I would wear one though.

Lol. :sl: that's funny. This guys was shiny like foil or something. And the group he's was with were moving fast! Saw is umbrella hat before I could make him out.

Seriously, though, wouldn't it catch on brush and other terrain-related obstructions? I suppose you could wear the hat if you already know there is not going to be a cat-claw bush that is going to reach out and grab the thing off your head...

Bart01 can be seen carrying a parasol sometimes to protect himself from the harsh Arizona sun. It is functional and dainty. :sl:

@Tough_Boots
There he goes again Kyle the heartless bagging on the dude that gives him rides out to places where his truck won't go. He has to wear the equivalent of a victorian corset around his feet so he can protect his feet when he hikes. Maybe that's why he calls my manly umbrella a parasol. :-k :whistle: :sl:
As for pants/ shoes and keeping things dry I have given up on it. Although I found my old Marmot ski patrol jacket held up well to the thorns and will be my new recycled shell for some of the wet bushwacking hikes where thorns and moisture is involved.
