Yarnell Hill Fire
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out & proclaiming, "Wow What a Ride!"

Re: Yarnell Hill Fire
The loss of life is terrible and my thoughts and prayers go out to those that have lost their lives, the families that lost loved ones and the people of Yarnell. For me it's like watching your childhood hometown distroyed.
As a child I spent nearly every summer right down the street in Wilhoit. So so sad....

Have a friend who's son works for US Forest Service in Yarnell area. He is saying all the Precott area fire freighters have been pulled off the fire so they can attend grief counseling.

It's freaky to look at the photos, see the highway through town, and think just 10 days ago me and my wife were walking along that sidewalk ...

Interview with Prescott division chief Darrell Willis: http://wildfiretoday.com/2013/07/24/pre ... hill-fire/
What he says happened is that the crew were heading south down a drainage, towards the ranch and that the fire actually approached them from the east (the direction of the ranch). When it cut them off, they created their own safe zone -- clearing brush and lighting a back fire -- before deploying.

The photo in the 7/21 edition of the Prescott Daily Courier of the Granite Mtn. Hotshots hiking up the hill to the fire on the day of their Last Alarm, is quite sobering

Re: Yarnell Hill Fire
Huh? Really? I don't believe it's that simple.Tough_Boots wrote:sucks that our governor is finding a way to use a tragedy to suck some money out of the Federal government again
Seems to me the original offer CAME from the Federal government under the guise of Obama & Biden... Here's the linked article quote of Brewer:
In the days after the fire, I appreciated the call I received from President Obama, during which he pledged to support our state during its time of great need. I was even more encouraged when Vice President Biden reiterated that commitment at the memorial service for the fallen Granite Mountain Hotshots. With today’s denial of the state’s request, Arizonans are left questioning what help they were willing to give.
Whether or not Brewer is trying to suck some money out of the Federal government that doesn't change the fact that Obama pledged to support & Biden reiterated that commitment at the memorial service only for it to appear they offered platitudes but nothing of substance.
In my opinion pledging support and not following through put Obama/Biden in the same botched boat as Brewer. Both sides are playing the media and the folks that could use the help are getting screwed not only by both state and federal administrations but by the media.

@CannondaleKid
Like I said, I'm all for federal support of this and I could go on and on about what I think about the Obama administration but that's a different topic. The fact is that Brewer has to show that there is a "need" for Federal support and not giving anything remotely close to real facts about the insurance coverage of the damages is her total failure. There is no evidence of any need of support that the State cannot handle.

Perhaps the thread should be split and moved to politics?
Either way, this sort of thing reinforces my long held belief that everyone sees Federal Money as good, so long as it's coming their way. It's only pork when it goes elsewhere.

Re: Yarnell Hill Fire
If our money was staying in the state and not being sent to Washington to be laundered first where we then have to beg for it back we would have it for Yarnell. The taxes sent to Washington belong to the people who worked for it, and the people in Yarnell I am sure paid into it.
I deal with 3 federal agencies in my business and career daily. They do what they want how they want and your livelihood is of little circumstance or of little concern to them.
Politics are being played and make no mistake about it they don't care about you. Only a fool trusts in someone other then family for their security. If I did not love what I do so much I would have gotten out of the industry a long time ago. :bdh:

I don't disagree with anything you just said-- but that's not going to get aid to these people. Can we at least figure out how much of this property is insured? How can anyone help if we aren't telling them what is needed?
