Myself and Eric (ssk44) stopped by this Sat-3/20pm at
igallery/image_page.php?id=4168 . We arrived back from a long day 4x4/hike outing in the Salome Wilderness to enjoy Mexican Food at Guayo's El Rey in Miami. We arrived at 7:30pm to a street full of parked cars and no available tables when we walked in the door. I immediately thought
this many people can't be wrong
. This must be true, but for some unknown reasons this Saturday night, all our high expectations for excellent food and service were not realized..
but we did leave with a healthy filling of Mexican food, chips, and salsa after a very ewarding day in the amAZing and remote Salome Wilderness. Next stop Chalo's in Globe!

First time visit with good results
:
de la Cruz Mexican Grille -South Superstition Mountain Dr.-
Gold Canyon, AZ (north end of commercial complex at Hwy60/Basha's Grocery Store)..
http://www.delacruzmexicangrille.com/
If you are on the way back from a day or weekend trip heading west on Hwy 60 from a further east Hwy 60 or Peralta TH outing and would like to try a quick access, ~new Mexican Restaurant, this one seems like a good choice if you missed stopping at one in Globe, Miami, or Superior. At 2:30pm on a Friday all eight Mexican plate lunch selections were only $6.00/ea with lots of chips and good salsa, quality food, good service, and with an outside patio- waterfall & green plants for those of us that just can't let go of that outside wilderness feeling! I suspect that their dinner menu prices are a bit more pricey but I still recommend.

Burger House (La Cocina De Casillas)
812 W. Live Oak
Miami, AZ
928-473-9918
Hours: 5:30-8:00, Monday through Saturday
This small little restaurant in down town Miami has been around for as long as I can remember. I have been coming here for years and am typically never let down. I love this place and I'm not the only one that shares that opinion. The Burger House is a local favorite and is almost always packed. Their specialties are great Mexican food and burgers. If you love chorizo and green chili, look no further. I'm a big green chili guy and truly great green chili is unfortunately something that most restaurants just can't seem to figure out. I eat green chili all over the state and will say that theirs is some of the best around. Not too hot and not too mild with good balanced flavor. Excellent!
If you're looking for atmosphere and personal service, this is not your restaurant. The Burger House is mostly take-out with a small dining area. This is a great place to get good food at reasonable prices while driving though Miami. I highly recommend the Burger House. It’s always been my favorite and still is to this day.

Re:
Chalo's La Casa Reynoso in Globe?
Randal and I were planning on stopping by here Sun-5/9pm to confirm or deny previous claims, but I can't confirm it still resides at Joe's location above as it does not come up on Map Quest with a Globe address. On Map Quest it does show with a Miami, AZ address at 722 W. Sullivan Street.
Does anyone know if the Globe location has closed down?

Thanks for the “detective work” Hank.

I’m ready to be an impartial arbitrator in determining if Chalo's is the Best Mexican Restaurant in Superior/Globe/Miami. Promise to bring an appetite…

Chalos is doing just fine. Jim and I ate there yesterday.
Also, if you dont happen to be in Globe, there is a Casa Reynoso at Mill and Southern in Tempe which is run by the son of the Chalos family and another Casa Reynoso at Kyrene and Ray in Chandler run by the grandsone

Chalo's was awesome yesterday. We also had excellent service, but it was a little before 5:00 PM. We left around 5:00, and the place was filling up.

With all the "raves" in this thread for Chalo's in Globe AZ
http://www.chalos.com/ , Hank and I were ready arriving at the doorstep with some primed taste buds and a healthy appetite. Alas, the restaurant was closed for Mother's Day!
Immediately implementing "Plan B", we back-tracked to Guayo's On the Trail
http://www.urbanspoon.com/u/profile_pho ... o_id=44463 located on Hwy 188 about a mile north from the Hwy 60 intersection. Satisfaction with all the basics covered...

Haha! We noticed this also. After driving past all of the closed and run down businesses I saw the bright colors of Chalo's up ahead then found it's lot empty and thought to myself "now why is this nicely maintained looking joint closed down?!?!" Now I know!

So sad, but Chalo's is closed every Sunday. On one particular Sunday, we stopped in a local watering hole and asked which we should've gone to (La Casita downtown was just awful) and he mentioned El Rey. I'd check that out - they've always got a lot of cars in the parking lot (even on Sunday).

Interesting in that
Libby's El Rey is the original reason I initiated this thread inquiry (see my very 1st post-July'08 for details). After discovering that Chalo's was closed on Sun-5/9, Randal & I passed the small, open Libby's El Rey on our way to second choice Guayo's, and had a chance to stop and check it out and we should have..

Another interesting tidbit that we learned while eating at La Casita - all of those Mexican restaurants in the area are owned and operated by members of the same family.

I finally ate at Chalo's yesterday. It was just a snack, since I was on my way to dinner. I'll have to go back when I can manage a whole meal.

We went to Libby's El Rey today after hiking Parker Creek. My green chile chimichanga prepared (red) enchilada style was outstanding. The beans were below-average, and the rice was well-below-average. I'll second Alston Neal's assertion that the bathroom was in pretty bad shape. At least the mens' restroom was. You'll have to ask Bruce about the womens' restroom
The service was very good, but the place was mostly empty. I'd rate this place below Chalo's, but above Guayo's El Rey.

That's too bad, I was looking forward to trying Libby's next time. I liked the tacos at Los Hermanos a little better than Chalo's, but it didn't have the same ambience.

Everyone else basically licked their plate clean, but I held back on the mediocre beans and rice because they weren't that good and I had to drive back to Phoenix. After Johnr1 & my experience along w/ what Hank and Joe had to go through we didn't need any more multiple-fatality accidents on US 60. I would recommend Libby's El Rey, but stay away from the beans and the rice. Another negative is that they charge for extra baskets of chips (which they coat w/ butter...seriously), but that's not a bad thing. The hot salsa was pretty hot and good, but the mild salsa was very good IMO. On a bad note, juliachoas shamed her serving of olives.... My green chile chimi was oustanding.
