Outdoor gear stores that have closed.

Post by Nighthiker »

High Adventure. I have a Optimus 8H stove that was $ 12.95. M 1956 Surplus gear Load Bearing Equipment from Laradas. All canvas but I switch to a nylon one for the alleged wet weather. Yellow Front, WW II canteens, mess kits and a lot of Levi pants. Popular, every thing else including White Sierra Jackets and Columbia clothing which the dtore in Scottsdale had my size in stock.

The unannounced visits by ATF to "audit" your logbooks are extra special. 🤪
I don't know how it is anymore, but apparently it used to be quite easy to get a wholesale gun license back in the 90's. Used to manage a well known bike shop in Tucson and one day two guys come in from the ATF for a surprise audit. They cornered me and peppered me with questions and I kept telling them to look around, we are a bike shop. Finally figured out there must be a connection due to the large gun safe in the owner's office, he had a side hustle selling guns out the back door. Sent them back to chat with the owner and when they left they were laughing like old friends.

@xsproutx

My first experience with clothing margins and purchases was when I managed a bike shop in college. We were the first in Tucson to attempt to stock more than two items of women's clothing, bike shops tended to be male focused. After I rang up a clothing purchase of 3-4 pairs of shorts, matching jerseys and socks to go along with it to a female customer and at 50% margins I became a believer. Male customers might come in for one piece of clothing and only because the item they are replacing is literally falling apart.
