Missile Silos

Post by Nighthiker »

I came across this site http://www.siloworld.com regarding missile silo's. At one time (who knows perhaps we still do) Arizona had Titan II missile silo's around Tucson. In the late 70's I had an ecounter with a security force after getting to close to one while hiking from Mammoth to AZ 89 (now AZ79). The sites has coordinates and some interesting links. Deactivated and abandonded some folks have been able to get down inside them.

Well, see, there seems to be this urban myth going around that those white things are the nose cones of rockets! I was told that by someone who was obviously NOT in the know!

How silly. While at the SH Sidewalk Sale the other day, I overheard some guy telling his buddy the reason the planes going into Davis-Monthan have white lights on is because they're getting ready to: "Drop a bunch of bombs." I let him know what "landing lights" means and that he needed desperately to lay off the Warcraft or Rainbox Six or whatever.

They're redeveloping an extinct Nike site near where I work. There's also a VORTAC installation not far from where I live. Neighboring cows covet the green grass within its fence, but nobody else takes much interest.
