Half Mother Lode, Friday, Nov. 28

Post by DarthStiller »

I've never done Brown's Peak yet, and I don't know if I can handle the full Mother Lode, so I want to try this one as a "get my feet wet" kind of hike for that. Plus, daylight is likely to be an issue for the whole thing. I'm thinking to do Peaks 1 and 2, make it down to the Amethyst Trail and depending on the time/condition, maybe go out to the mine and then back to the TH. It's the day after Thanksgiving, so a good opportunity to work off the turkey and stuffing.

Yeah, I heard originally that it was going to rain on Friday, but now it looks like there's only a 10% chance. But it's going to be cold! Hi of only 68 in the valley, so what do you guess it will be on the peak? High in upper 40s up there, wind chill in 30s?

NOAA has a website that you can plug in the coordinates for a specific area and get the forecast for it. I'll check it tonight and see.

Wow, if this weather keeps up into Friday I'm gonna cancel, no sense in getting out there just to get struck by lightning.

It's only a 20% chance of showers on Friday. Tomorrow the forecast will be more accurate.

The NOAA forecast for those coordinates is only showing a chance of thunderstorms for Thursday. Friday has a 20% chance but it's only of rain, and estimated rainfall would only be 0.04" for the morning, not the 3/4 inch predicted on Turkey day. If push comes to shove, is Saturday a backup option? No chance of precip at all, and temps about 5-6 degrees cooler. I don't think we'll need the backup option though

my wife's already got plans for Sat. for me since I'll be doing this Fri. I think we have some people coming over. I think we'll be good on Friday.

when I left work today in Ftn Hills, the clouds were clearing and 4Peaks still looked clear. If we can get thru tomorrow, we'll be good.

Its not for thunderstorms, is it? We should be fine with a little drizzle. Anyway, its the disaster hikes that make for the best stories to your grandkids (if you survive). My first hike up there was a disaster story.

Sorry to see you can't make it Mike. Have fun with the relatives. :sl:

If we do get a good rain tomorrow, the drive up might even be a mini-adventure. Looks like we'll have two carloads.

BTW, looks like everyone has agreed to meet at my place at 5:30am Friday. If not, speak up now. Pace PM'ed and said he might be interested (can we get that set up as a 4th option, Joe, "Might Be Interested"?), so we'll see how that all goes.
