Tucson area 3-5 mile RT hikes

Post by tibber »

My boss and his traveling mate are on their way to Tucson this Easter weekend. I went thru the TrailDEX and found some 3-5 mile RT hikes incl Aspen Draw Trail, Aspen/Marshall Loop and Sunset Trail. But then I was thinking, I don't know if the higher elevation trails would be such a good idea at this time.

Could someone offer some suggestions that I can give him? and remember he's my boss. ;)
For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled.

My boss and his hiking partner went to Sabino Canyon to do the Seven Falls hike where they rode the tram 1/2 way up. They said it was a great hike though a bit rainy. He said they ran into a group from the AZ Succulent society or some such thing and thanks to them they saw a big old owl. He said you wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't been pointed out to them.
Anyway they loved the area and he says I would love it.

you would definitely love it, especially this time of year when the blooms and birds are everywhere and the hiking is easy

May I recommend Kings Canyon trail, up to the saddle where it meets the Sweetwater trail? It's desert hiking at its best, with the reward of one of the best views of the northwest part of Tucson from that saddle. http://www.hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=558 will give you an overview... and don't feel that you need to go to the summit of Wasson Peak to get the full benefit of the trail!

7 falls is a good Tucson starter hike - especially this time of year (and in cold weather!) Glad they enjoyed it! You should definitely come down and check out the Catalinas sometime!
