This looks like a nice way to ease my way back in to see how much I can handle. 7.8 miles out and back, and I would like to also maybe add on a venture up to Maverick Spring, the top of Green Mt., and maybe even up the Brush Corral Trail and loop back. Most descriptions favor starting at the San pedro vista area rather than the General Hitchcock Campground. Any reason for this? I was thinking to maybe start at Gen. Hitchcock to save time driving. In any event, leaving Mesa at the usual 5:30am start time.

I downloaded BrettVet's GPS route and it seems to show the connector trail very well from Bear Canyon Picnic Area over to Gen. Hitchcock, so I don't foresee a huge problem finding a place to park down below. Just got back from my first physical therapy and I feel great :wlift: ! Ready for my first hike back from injury . Come on, who's in?

I haven't hiked this area before-- sounds tempting. What time are you thinking for the return?

I'm gonna guestimate 4-5ish. But if you need to be back sooner, we can plan appropriately to make it. I can't imagine getting back in Mesa before 3, though.

The General Hitchcock CG is at 6,000' and I would expect a higher daytime temp there unless a monsoon rain cools things off. Here's a forecast for that elevation:

The San Pedro Vista end is about 7,200' so it will be a little cooler up there.

Well, the girlfriend has off on Sunday and wants to hit a swimming hole. I'm gonna have to opt out of this one and head up to Sedona.

Get ready for the crowds... I personally stay way far away from Sedona over the 4th, I don't like sitting in traffic for an hour to get through town.
