Best Pizza in Flagstaff or Northern AZ

This thread is long over due.

For me, it's a toss up between the really good pies at New Jersey Pizza on Cedar just west of 4th, and Ni Marcos on Beaver south of the tracks. New Jersey Pizza is slow (420 friendly), and every time I have ordered, I show up late and still wait for my pizza. But, they are really good and use local fresh ingredients for their toppings. Their green chili pizza is the best I ever had. I only had their's and one other.

Ni Marco's is good, too, and they are reliable and get their times right.

I know Jake's old place was good, but they shut down. Alpine is ketchup on a cracker, and the City Pizza is Dominos in a different wrapper.

I remember one time I surfaced after about 10 days in country in Escalante, Utah, in the early days, before the BLM had a presence in town. I was really looking forward to the little hamburger stand in town and their excellent milkshakes. It was off season and everything was closed. Of course there wasn't much there anyway. So it was gas station pizza and sandwiches and boy were they good.
Don't know about Flagstaff Pizza but will be passing thru there next week so might see if I can get a few slices to go!!

Gas station food isn't always bad. Los Vaqueros, my favorite Mexican restaurant in Livermore, CA was also half gas station and convenience store. I think the gas station part bit the dust last year, but the tacos are still great. Back on topic, I'll could well be in Flagstaff for a day or two next month, so I'll have to try some different pizza.

On a ski trip to Colorado many years back, the water pump on my pumpkin ford escort blew somewhere between Monticello and Moab. It was shorter to get back to Monticello so I backtracked. It was a saturday afternoon, and the NAPA closed at noon, and there were also no service stations open. A local gas station clerk suggested I knock on the door of a mechanic who works out of the garage/barn attached to his house. I did. Nice guy. He called the owner of the NAPA who took me to the store where they actually had the water pump that I needed in stock. The mechanic proceeded to take my entire engine out (the water pump is waaaaaaay in there) and made the repair in about 3 hours. I sat in his garage watched the whole thing while keeping warm. He heated the place by burning used motor oil. Straight up. (Al Gore's photo was NOT on the wall!). I paid the guy in cash, and it cost at least half what it would have cost to have it repaired in the valley. I don't recall eating fried chicken or anything else in Monticello, but I do have this fond memory of the place. I managed to get into Vail by about 2am, and still hit the first lift Sunday morning. Ah to be young again...

Are you sure, did you use the bathroom? Maybe it was in there.

Monticello is a lot like Eagar. And similar stories abound in Eagar. Everything closed on Sunday, but someone always makes a phone call for the stranded tourist, to a shop owner, so that a tire can be purchased and installed, etc.

Yeah but does it have pizza?

There are always these pizza places in Eagar and Springerville that start up, then go out of business. I think there is still one in Springerville, in the Safeway Plaza. But there used to be three of them. There used to be a lot of things there that went out of business, though. :(

Pizzeria Venti in Pinetop/Lakeside by the Cinema. Good pizza and they have these incredible Bocce Balls. Paired with a little Vino I am happy. :) I guess pie maker went all the way Italy to learn his trade. It could use a little more ambiance but the food is gooood!

OK, I tried New Jersey pizza this time out. It was pretty good, and the crust was fantastic. I hope they have a lot of regular takeout customers, because I came in at 7:30 on a weeknight and by the time I left, I was still the only sale. I almost tried Ni Marcos, too, but I wasn't quite ready for another pizza.

I also went to Bun Huggers based on HAZ recommendations. It was a satisfying burger and they didn't complain about how much snow I tracked in. (I walked pretty much the whole length of town and back in the snow before I came in).

This time I tried NiMarco's, which took some arm-twisting and threats of being ridiculed by the HAZ crowd. I think it's on par with NJ Pizza, but the setting and atmosphere are more conducive to hanging out. For a less massive feed, the pizza at Beaver Street Brewery isn't bad.

Well, NiMarco's is usually a lot faster, but I thought NJ was better. Slooooooooow, but they tended to do a very good job.
