So I went to this squirrel party and met a few HAZers.. I want to know when we all are getting together for some camping event. Not to mentiom; it's about time our friend AZPride takes a rope to the top.. How about Cochise?! -- hiking maybe climbing, car camping in style? (My car camping still includes cooking on a fire and sleeping in a tent.)

I don't have a computer… Not because I'm against having one. Really just hasn't been a top priority on my gear list.
I am now attempting to navigate, post, reply (etc..) this site with only an iPhone… Wish me luck!

I decided not to post the photoset in order to protect the innocent. Apparently there was somebody trying to sneak some strawberries or something...

Re: Fellow HAZers
So more on the subject of official planning, this is a tough time of year for a lot of people. It's probably too late to get people to commit to anything before Thanksgiving (and I'm busy anyway...) and December is typically full of busy weekends and pre-holiday plans for most people. Which pushes us out into 2012. Winter weather can be hit-or-miss, but that shouldn't stop us from planning something. We could go with something as crazy as a Hazzy New Year camping trip (it's a Saturday night) to something in January or February. I realize that there is no way that everybody will be free on any given weekend and ultimately we will just have to pick day and those who can make it will, and those who can't won't.... but does anybody have any thoughts on mid-January. Let's say weekend of 14-15th (MLK day)?

Re: Fellow HAZers
I'm completely booked up through early January, so 14-15 would work fine for me. Weekend after is probably out though.

Re: Fellow HAZers
I'm down whenever. I love meeting all the HAZ folks. Would this be a car camping trip or maybe a backpack? We'll have to figure out an area with a big enough spot. If we're talking January, that puts us most likely in the Supes? Where else would work?

But I would also require a minimum 60" HDTV.
I'm probably out no matter when. Full weekend excursions are tough since my wife works Saturdays. and my kids are still small enough that camping in the winter might be a little too much for them at this point. But I'll keep an eye out an mention to my wife if whatever is decided looks like it might work.

No worries, I was replying to Chumley's post, for why nobody could click the sign up buttons at the top.Hikergirl81 wrote:@nonot- well, I'm a better co-pilot than pilot when it comes to trip planning so we may have a problem.. I was looking for a group opinion. I probably just posted in the wrong area.
I am interested, though I have a few conflicts through the end of December. If this thing gets momentum for January as the latest posts suggest, there's a good chance I'll be able to come root Joel on. Hope that there is plenty of hot chocolate or hot apple cider involved for warming up on those cold January mornings! Cochise is listed at 5000+ ft! Brrr!

Re: Fellow HAZers
I'm in for Jan 14-15!
Though I can't speak for Isle of Ewe campground specifically, I can say I've car camped on the west side, off Middlemarch Rd, and campsites were plentiful and humongous. In fact, we did it New Years two years ago and were rather warm much of the day. (night was a different story, but that's what campfires are for)
Do I get a beer for every lead fall I take? (one from each person there, of course) That could motivate me to be a bit more fearless...

Re: Fellow HAZers
Weather could be an issue, but it looks like 5000 feet down there is not the same as 5000 feet in the mountains. Tonight for example (a pretty chilly day even by January standards) it's supposed to drop to 28. Not toasty warm, but certainly not too cold if you're car camping and can bring your electric blanket with you
Don't forget, you should be in a sleeping bag when it's that cold. It'll only be in the upper 30s when you're around the campfire.

Re: Fellow HAZers
first thing came to my mind is Cave Creek/Seven Springs camp area. closer to valley where most (this thread) of us live and good water source, and a beer store 15 min away.
a good sized group could hang there, with all the luxuries.

Re: Fellow HAZers
I think we can decide the actual location based on the weather that week. I agree that closer might be better, or even allow people to "drop-in" who can't come all weekend. Of course if everybody brings a poster that complains about something I think we can also just set up camp in Margaret T. Hance park...

I don't enjoy cold weather (winter) camping. I'm pretty much shut down in that area until March/April (said the summer boy).

I know the pumpkin filter is online, and I saw that originally it was working normally. There was one that someone else posted a while back that got thru accidentally that was WAY worse.te-wa wrote:sheesh, family site, man

This sounds like a great idea. I have been using the site for over a year now and would really like to put some faces to the names that I typically see on the site. I would definitely be interested if my schedule permits.
