Dittos. Saw my first one before dawn on opening day of mule deer hunt, about 1994 or so, while driving dirt road on S. side of the Chiricahuas. It ran across the road. Saw my second one on Christmas day about 7 years ago at Wenima Wildlife Area by Springerville. We had come to the edge of the cliff on the road leading to the area, where there is a view of the hayfield below. The big cat was trotting in the hayfield. It went over to the road by the restrooms, then doubled back. There is always that big herd of deer in that hayfield, and it was stalking them, I guess.Preston the yeti wrote:Saw my first lion walking across highway 260 near Sandrock Canyon on the Rim years ago, apparently stalking elk. Saw my 2nd lion on New Mexico highway 78 near Mule Creek a few years ago, crossing the pavement at a frighteningly fast speed. Both sightings (at night) were from the safety of my enclosed vehicle, which I was thankful for.
Wow... hard to get in the right mindframe, but I'd say never try to run away from a mountain lion... it sends the wrong message. Unfortunate about the injury... it is dangerous out there!azdesertfather wrote:Hiker injured fleeing from mountain lion at Catalina State Park http://feedly.com/k/18NN5Ek
