SMALL PART of Apache-Sitgreaves to close June 11

Edit: Now it's official and it's only near Pinetop, Lakeside, Show Low and Vernon, mostly on the south side of 260. Not much!
Original post: I heard this through the grapevine from someone living in Show Low. I will follow up with a real news report when I can find one. My friend said "entire forest." Just don't make any camping plans until you know for sure.
I have camping plans in the Coke (Coconino NF) in a couple of weeks, so I will be watching carefully, and I will also have a Plan B.

@chumley
I took an exorbitant amount of my personal time (almost 3 whole minutes!) to call the Lakeside Ranger District.
I refer to that quote. Calm down.

While I don't feel my heartbeat is at all elevated, I understand that my sarcasm can often be misconstrued in writing form. I am aware that if one person reads something in one way, it is likely that others have as well. If I've offended you or anybody else, I apologize. That was not my intent.

Again, calm down. You look flush. All I was saying, was that with that opening sentence, you made it look a little like the OP was lazy, and you took but 3 minutes to call them to find things out. Your bombardment of Liz quotes suggested you thought it was an attack. It was not.

I agree, I should have said "rumor" in the original post. Also, I doubted my source a little bit, because she said "the entire Apache-Sitgreaves."
I took that with a big grain of salt. In the past, when people living in the Lakeside Ranger District have had their trails closed they have all hollered that the "entire forest is closed!!!" So, I had seen that before. I figured there would be some closures, but I doubted if they would be the entire A Bar S (slang for Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest).
Anyway, so now we know.

I think the original post was clear enough on the uncertain nature of the information. Having been caught by closures that were not yet announced when I boarded the plane, I appreciate whatever flawed glimmer of warning might be available, provided it comes with appropriate disclaimers.

It's not the whole forest! You can still hike Baldy and the Black River!
I had not noticed any cereal sticking to Todd when I met him. You mean like, Cheerios in his hair?

I bring high quality meat on trips, but only enough for myself.

You know, all those trails that are closing are the ones that a certain club in Pinetop-Lakeside built. They are nice enough for exercise, but the best trails are in the Springerville and Alpine Ranger districts. Those are real trails suitable for backpacking, such as Mt. Baldy, Black River Mainstem, Largo, Lanphier, Blue River Trail, Escudilla, Grant Creek, Foote Creek, Bear Wallow, etc. As far as I can find out, none of those trails are closing.
Furthermore, when I lived in the White Mountains they sometimes did close the entire forest. They may yet do that. There were still plenty of places for me to hike and mountain bike around Springerville. I used to go to Wenima Wildlife area along the Little Colorado River (AZGFD preserve) or to Sipe Mountain Wildlife area or to White Mountains Grasslands Area, also AZGFD. I used to hike down the Little Colorado gorge from Springerville. I'd ride my mountain bike all over the grasslands, and hike up lower Carnero Creek. There was never a lack of things to do or see. The grasslands areas are also where most of the petroglyphs and other ancient sites are found.

As long as you also understand that your sarcasm can also be misconstrued in spoken form

There is large, formerly independent hotel in Morristown formerly called the Gouverneur Morris, after one of the co-authors and signers of the Constitution. When they sold out to a chain, it was renamed the Governor Morris. I guess they did it just so people could spell it right, but it isn't technically correct. "Gouverneur" was his first name (taken from his mother's maiden name), not a political position. He served in the Continental Congress and was later a US Senator, but was never Governor of anything.
(Maybe this belongs on the Grammar and Pet Peeves thread

)

@BobP
Savour the flavour, don't devour the governour.
