Dammit Ski! Liz and I thought that you had woken up on the right side of the bed with a positive outlook on life with nothing but sunshine and flowers in your future. 8) Oh well.

It was about 0 at 4 a.m. here. So, the promised warm spell has not yet arrived. I do notice the longer days and higher angle of the sun. That in and of itself can dispell some of the doldrums I've been feeling. I MIGHT go hiking today near Show Low.

Yeah, we were colder last night than the night before. I still can't believe how cold it is here. I guess, it is not different than Sedona, but it seems extreme.

My yard was looking gorgeous in Nov. Right now it is looking pretty bad--huge Aloe completely drooped over ( web said the low it could tol was 19 degrees so I think Mon night got it) Tall columnar cactus top drooping over. A couple of my potted exotic cactii either will need lots of pruning come spring or are gone. And all this stuff was covered. Just too cold for too long. SUX!!

@RedRoxx44
Same thing happened to some of my tropical columnar cacti in the last big freeze back in 2011. The total demise of the plants wasn't discernible immediately, but was complete in a few months. More saguaros are going to bite the dust too I imagine.

Having this cold over here seems normal, judging by the previous years records, and so that much be a large part of why the local vegetation is so drab. Consider yourself lucky to be able to grow the more exotic stuff in Arizona.

Highs are going to be in the 70s now? It was nice while it lasted.

Ok, Patrick, you're fired!

I am happy to report it will be 50 degrees up here on Sunday. It will feel nice, but I would definitely prefer 70's and 80's!

This warm up is A-OK by me. Really going to enjoy hiking, maybe on Ortega Peak tomorrow, something low or high later on.

So gorgeous today! I think the high was 48 - snow is melting rapidly, and it felt like Spring! :D
Hiking to IG and Plateau Point Tuesday, and probably something good Thursday as well ... just haven't decided what yet.

It was 63 here. I still wore my coat while out, but the sun isn't really strong this time of year. Better than 37!

Looks like a return to winter over next weekend, with a possible storm. Even though I want spring, a moist storm would be the best thing. Snow for the Peaks would be great, too, and rain for the desert. Hopefully, January will have a good snow for the Peaks. Might ruin the planned hike, but I saw a Photo of the west side, and it really isn't winter above treeline.

I am tired of the cold, and it's mostly been a dry cold. If we had a couple of really big heavy wet snowstorms, then maybe we'd have a good river season on the upper Salt, starting in March. I'm going to be comped a commercial run on the Salt this year, but only if they are able to open the season!

I may post the Salt commercial trip as a HAZ "event" if there's any interest.

Models are starting to agree more, and it looks like a weak storm over the weekend followed by a stronger, wetter, colder one early in the week for Arizona. Maybe the Gila will get some rain and snow, but it looks like my area is likely to remain bone dry. Either way, more desert rain and mountain snow is a welcome idea. Then back to 80 degrees, over there.

Well the Phoenix Open starts next week, so it's almost a certainty that there will be cold weather and rain. You can pretty much mark it on your calendar every year.

It's remarkable how reliably periodic some weather patterns are. There's a fall festival that I won't go to any more because it always rains that weekend (something like 11 of the last 14 years). Also, I noticed a long time ago that the weather here follows a fairly pronounced seven-day cycle, at least from mid-autumn to late spring.

When I was a kid growing up in Flagstaff, you could set your watch by the first summer rainfall - It was always a the exact start of the 4th of July Pow-Wow Parade.

My dad always says that the Coconino County Fair wil cure even the worst lull in the monsoons. I remember one year there was even a tornado warning over that weekend...

I notice there is always a January dry period after a wet later half of December. Seems that way, at least. In Flagstaff and Kayenta, after a week or a few of lovely warm calm weather, Memorial Day weekend was ruined by cold and windy conditions, sometimes snowy conditions.
