I hiked to the summit of Superstition Mountain today by myself. I have never hiked alone before except for Camelback Mountain, which doesn't really count. I think that being alone added quite a bit to the experience, but it was also kind of scary. I never really felt that I was in danger, but it just felt strange out there without a partner to watch my back. What are all of your thoughts on the matter?

Just remember to write your social security # on your shoulder with a Sharpie.
I hike alone a lot, and have done so for years, and it sounds like you're doing it the right way. Have a safety contact, be prepared, and don't do stupid stuff. I hiked with Ron quite a bit before he moved to Maine, and hiking with a partner is a lot better for challenging hikes, but now it's going to be mainly solo for me.

I sure don't let a lack of companions stop me from doing something. So many women do, though. However, sometimes a group trip can be such a blast. Depends upon the group, of course!
