Parker Creek Hike Sunday May 30

It looks like the Pine Canyon hike isn't going to happen on that date due to "Crash" Stiller's injury, so it's time to hit Parker Creek in the Sierra Anchas. Plan on doing grasshopper's default route then up to Aztec Peak and looping back via trail #139 and #140 then back down Parker Creek. I would also love a short side-trip to Workman Creek Falls, but I'll leave that up to others. Plan on leaving the Valley @ 6:00 AM. Pack a lunch.

I'm sad to say I will not be able to join this party and what promises to be interesting soundtracks both there and back.

I just got word this morning that they are sending me to training for in 4 days instead of July so I now have about 4 weeks of cramming for recurrent and a new aircraft to do in 4 days.

I know get the violins out and call the wambulance. It sounds like the hike will be fun times. I will definitely be up for some hiking after a 6 week hiatus.

If you come across bees on your trip wear light clothing, don't make any vibrations, sounds, don't swat or kill them, run like hell, if they are following you after a quarter of a mile they are probably killer bees, and hike with the person that brought the benedryl. Just tidbits of knowledge I have gleaned over the past couple of days. ;)

....and hike with people that can't run as fast as you!

The odds are in your favor
I think I can out run Bruce the midget and daddy long legs Jim in his boots, if not a shameless push will suffice. They enjoy that Slayer crap so they're probably into torture anyhow. Now where did I put that pollen aerosol

I'm counting on being able to out-run Joe, and maybe Bruce. No way can I out-run Dave. Dave can probably climb faster than I can run! Why aren't we going to have a Bob sighting on this trip?

@ bart01
Glad you survived your bee encounter and good luck with the new training. Looks like it will be intense!

Thanks! I'll be happy to get the next 6 weeks finished. Personally I like my new popeye forearms from the swelling.

I will probably be driving by ya'll's TH on Sunday; I'll wave at your cars. Got business north of there. For the record it's Nickelback, Daughtry, and some Kelly Clarkson. You guys would leave me in the dust anyway. Have fun.

I just committed. Will bring earplugs as necessary. Any chance of being picked up along Hwy 60? We have used the Best Buy parking lot at the Fiesta Mall in the past as a carpool meeting spot. It is located on the west side of Alma School, about 1/8 mile north of Hwy 60.

Alright, how about Joe & Bruce meet me @ my actual house (1739 West Verde Lane in Phoenix which is off of 18th Avenue just north of Thomas) @ 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. Then we'll pick up juliachaos, and head out to meet everyone else @ the Best Buy by Fiesta Mall @ 6:00 a.m.
Tim's going to be driving himself.
Dave, where are you coming from?

I'm on the west side so I'll just meet you at your place. I have a truck but it only seats 2. If there's enough room I'll go with you guys, if not I can drive.

I can fit 5 in my car (and I think Bruce's Pathfinder is the same) so we can get out to the Fiesta Mall Best Buy no problemo w/ me, Joe, Bruce, juliachaos, and Dave, but we'll need another vehicle from there to the TH because John is in.
John, can you drive? If not maybe both Bruce and I can drive from central Phoenix to the Best Buy. BTW, John, earplugs won't work because that car's stereo ROCKS!

If a low clearance minivan can make it to the trailhead, then I can drive. Otherwise, I am happy to donate for gas. I have not been to this trailhead before, or in this area in many years so I don't know the road conditions.

It's paved almost all the way, then hard packed dirt highway. Yeah a sane driver

John, I don't think that a minivan will work because its speakers won't rock nearly loud-enough for "HAZ-quality". C'mon, dude....

6am Best Buy. I'll be there. I can take you out there John. But no guarantees on the way back. If I don't go to Flagstaff tomorrow night, then I can bring you back. Otherwise you'll have to be strapped on the top of the Slayer-mobile for the ride home (or take out the weakest link).

I'm not sure I want to ride with anyone with eyes that are that far apart!

I guess we'll figure it out tomorrow AM. When will you decide if you are going to flag or not?
