I disagree. Jim's wish for nice fall weather precipitated the precipitation.SuperstitionGuy wrote:This just goes to prove that everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it.

Re: 2014: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Snow on Pikes Peak, check out the summit cams from the city of CO Springs. Will Bart do a loop this fall?
It appears the snow melted off the Peaks, but then it is very early for that, even if it felt cold last week on Humphrey for me, who is now a low desert dweller.
I checked the Pima County gauges, and it appears that over the last year, Mount Lemmon has had almost 40 inches of rain and snow melt near the summit. Even in a drought, that area gets a tons of water.

Re: 2014: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
@Jim_H
Chances of summit snow until Monday. Supposed to be clear Tuesday.
Snow level was quite a bit lower than I thought based on observations from Mt. Esther. I could see over towards the crags and the snow seems to be above 10,000', but I was starting to run into it as low as 9200'. I'm thinking the Crags if I have to do the entire hike in snow. Any takers?
Ski season is approaching with a basin projected opening 10/18

Re: 2014: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Given that this was a storm of tropical origin, I doubt it offers much in indication for the winter to come, but the Pikes Peak conditions are something. I still want to enjoy some nice, warm, dry and sunny fall weather before winter arrives. What happened to that!?! Seems the dew point just won't drop off around here, and it is struggling to get below 50 degrees. At least it isn't above 60 degrees, but then we're not getting air temperatures over 90 anymore.

Hail storm and rain Saturday afternoon in the Payson area. The hail range from pea to marble sized and I could have used a WW II British army helmet with the wide brim, spent about an hour hugging a tree.

Some talk about the winter forecast. Who knows how we'll end up, but the CA weather blog mentions CA mentions CA having a high likelihood of a dry winter, with only 1 of 8 models calling for wet, and NOAA seems to think the CA drought will intensify. We might, might be wetter, though. Guess we'll know 5 months from now.

As 'accurate' long-term weather forecasts tend to be (IMO, even short-term are likely inaccurate) and since I have no control over the weather, I find no need to speculate of what might be and simply make the best of what actually happens, when it happens.Jim_H wrote:Guess we'll know 5 months from now.

Anyway, this is one of the oddest Octobers I can remember in Arizona or New Mexico, with lots of rain, and yet another wet low moving up from the Baja. Very strange.

The little tropical bomber dumped .28 inch rain at my place along with some fairly impressive cloud to ground lightning action and a wind gust of 29 mph.

I still think it is odd. It will keep the plants green a while, and I wonder how it will affect wild flowers like brittlebrush?

Nothing much in the western end of Grand Canyon where I just spent the past 4 days. We had a few drops of rain on Friday, and some clouds here and there, not much wind, thankfully. Great trip, great weather!

Poured on us when we were in Williams on Saturday and then in Payson twice on Sunday! Not much in the way of measurable rain but was nice anyway.. It always rains during the AZ state fair...

Re: 2014: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun
Well, more to the point of how I odd I find yesterday's rain to be, I recall it being super nice and dry all month long, last year this time in Alamo. The rain yesterday seemed to have more of a New Mexico focus, with quite a bit in the south central part of that state. In that other state, El Paso reports over 8/10ths of an inch. This is blowing my mind, man.
