I thought I'd throw an idea out on the table

maybe we could combine the map & compass event with another that's been requested

how about...

the 1st Annual HAZ BBQ

I'm thinkin' South Mountain, Papago(but it closes at dusk) or Piestewa(the other side which is more of a park)
or wherever is good for orienteering & a BBQ

mid July Saturday, starts late afternoon with map & compass then the masses join for one hum dinger of a BBQ

might need more guides than just Matt if there's a lot of folks

Good points Joe.

Somebody just call it, you never make everyone happy with schedule or venue.

I second that Joe. I think you should just name a place and time of your choosing for the BBQ and those that can make it great! The compass/map class schedule can be discussed there.

Does anyone live in a place that has clubhouse facitlities that you can reserve? I know some of the apt. complexes do. Wish we did here! I am also in the food biz p/t and know what 'ya mean Joe! Gotta get away from it!! There's lots of nice areas in the Greenbelt from Oak St. down to Roosevelt. It might be cooler (?)there due to amount of grass and irrigation. Have to buzz by those places one of these nights and compare! I'll be working most of the days on Sat., so I'll miss the map part.

I think a park is the best idea as well. If we did something in the late afternoon or evening, the weather has been very nice. Squaw Peak has a huge group area.

I just want to drink my beer and eat some BBQ... If we could get some facts straight, I might volunteer to help prepare some "dead cow." It would cut catering costs down tremendously and it would be a fun activity to congregate around. After all, part of the fun of a BBQ is barbecuing.

Oh no! The poll says the 19th is the day of choice. Please God, don't let it be the 19th. I promise God, if you make it anyday but the 19th I'll never do anything bad again! I know, you've heard this before but I really mean it THIS time. Amen

Alright guys and gals its time to sign up for the Map and Compass class and the BBQ to follow. If you are attending both please sign up for both. The size of the class is fixed however the BBQ size may expand depending on interest shown.

Did I miss it?

And the classes and BBQ would be when???

If I can make it I'm bringing home made ice cream.

The sign up thing tells me the locations and times are hidden for security??? Are we worried about a terror attack?

Part of determining if I'm going to go depends on location and time.

Guess I have to be good  I will be there no matter what the time and location but I agree with Daryl. This will probably be key to many people. It just makes it easier to plan.

what we have here is one of them there... good points!

I'll fix it :)

added:
The idea behind the Hidden for Security on meeting location was intended for hikes. So if everybody meets at a grocery/department store their cars aren't targets for thiefs. I adapted the interface for functions now.

First of all, thank you Matt and Joe for helping to put these two events together, and thanks to all those behind the scenes helping out with these two events.

Is anyone else bringing their kids to the BBQ, that's what I would like to know?

Posted: Jun 24 2003 6:11 pm

Just my 21 year old daughter. The rest? I don't think they'd be too interested.

Maybe you're right Cindy, perhaps I should start looking for an all day babysitter to watch my little guys :( That's always fun, trying to find a sitter :?

The BBQ is going to be on July 26th at 6:00pm. The M&C class will begin at 12:00pm the same day.

Kids are welcome, you might want to get together with some of the other HAZ-parents (AK, AZ_Hiker, I know there are others).

Since the information is public all I can do is ask, Please sign through the Group Interface on the home page.

Okay then, AK and AZHiker, if you bring your little ones, I'll bring the squirt guns and water to fill them  I will bring some things to help, in keeping them entertained with one another. I would really like to know if others are going to bring their children, and what their ages are.
